Cheers

I've no idea on how many were made, but a 1985 ('C' plate) is the first year that the UT was made. This would only have been the latter part of 1985 as the new 'C' registration came in post August the 1st.

There are very few 'C' registered Unos left let alone UT's from that year! My Uno 45S is on a 'C' plate but was first registered in May 1986 so it's a late 'C'.

Have you any pictures of you '85 UT? Post them up if you do!

I'm sure there's a thread somewhere on numbers. I'm certain that it's not many now. Maybe not even in double figures.

I saw a light blue '85 C-reg for sale in Hounslow about a year ago. Pretty good project car which was still in one piece. Not an original colour.

I remember someone posting about an '85 B-reg that they had just found and were planning to work on and the thread came up again pretty recently.

As for the best example I've seen; a graphite grey '85 in complete original and almost showroom condition that was up for sale about a year and a half ago in Torino. I was tempted but it was more than I was willing to pay. In hindsight it was the beginning of the rise in price in Italy which will have an effect everywhere else, and a car like that would be worth owning.

Good luck and keep posting as everyone will be really interested seeing it.

M.

Not the best photos but the only ones ive got a the momment.

Looks tidy for a 'C' reg! I agree with Pottleflump - it would look better with original wheels. Those currently on it are from a Lancia Delta ;)

I think the light blue one in Hounslow was the one me and Jai went to look at earlier this year. The floor had gone on it and it had been in a front ender at some point (and repaired not too well). However, as a donor vehicle it offered a lot of good spares.

It was only a few years ago that you could pick up a tatty runner for £150 :(

Ive got the original wheels but they could do with a refurd! My old man put these on the car years ago only to find they were for a delta.Iam trying to keep the ut original as possible so once the little R13s are restored they will be back!!!

i've seen A and B reg uno turbos before

I can only assume they were re-shells because the Uno Turbo wasn't released until mid 1985. 'A' reg covered August 1983 to July 1984, and 'B' reg covered August 1984 to July 1985.

I've also looked at some of my magazine articles and they confirm that the first Uno Turbos were released in mid 1985 on a 'C' plate. One article is from a Uno buying guide in Autocar and Motor, 4th January 1989.

Don't forget as well that there was a 70SX three door available on a 'B' plate that looked very similar to the Turbo (same body kit). After 1985 the SX was only available as a 5 door.

i've seen a A reg uno turbo with my own eyes and it wasnt a re-shell or a 75sx. i was once told by someone that he own'd a Y registered mk1 uno turbo but i've never seen it myself.

75's dont quite have the same kit the front bumpers aint the same.

check with the dvla they can actually tell you how many mk1 uno turbos are still taxed and tested

So if the UT wasn't launched until 1985 which is a late 'B' or early 'C' plate how can they possibly wear a 'Y' or 'A' plate unless they were re-shelled into an earlier body?

The Sporting Fiats clubs says this about the UT:

"The first Uno Turbos were launched in April 1985. They were priced to compete with the Peugot 205 GTi and Renault 5 GT Turbo."

http://www.sfconline.org.uk/models/uno/uno.asp

And in the August 1990 What Car? second hand buyers guide the UT is only listed from 1985 onwards. The other Unos are listed from 1983 onwards.

Therefore it is not possible for an originally UK registered mk1 turbo to wear a Y or A plate (1983 - 1984), and only a VERY early mk1 could possibly have a B plate assuming that the April 1985 launch date included the UK.

I mentioned the 1985 3 door 70SX as looking similar to the mk1 UT. The side skirts and wheels arch extentions are the same, and it has the same front fog lights as the UT. The front bumper differs by not having the lower lip to cover the intercooler. The 70SX also has the oval shaped exhaust tip that is also similar to the UT standard exhaust.

Pictures would show whether there are any UT's with registrations early than 1985 as I only have magazine articles. I don't know how to access the DVLA website, and surely that will only show the number of cars still registered and won't show those that have been scrapped?

Anyone else have history/ production details of the mk1 turbo?

I have an '85 B plate UT! One of Fiats press cars. Unfortunately due to buying a house all my cash is being used up by that so its looking sorry for itslef in the garage and will do for some time!

I remember you getting that car monster, wasn't it a Fiat UK press car in green? If you want to shift it and free up space in your garage I'd be interested ;)

As for Y and A reg UTs perhaps these are cars which have come over from Italy, they generally get their cars 6 months to 1 year earlier, if it was imported and registered in the UK it would get an age related plate, but it would also likely be LHD.
