Uno My Black MK1 UT thread

Introduction

Some of you might or might not know but i've had a black mk1 UT for just over four years now in a lock-up

I'm finally going to start working on it and it should hopefully be on road sometime during 2008. Its not going to be 100percent original from factory but exactly how i want it to look and go!

IMO its the best one, MK1(obvious lol) black, tipo gearbox, no sunroof and the late spec interior.

the engine has been re-built with hybrid turbo, ported head, lightened and balanced bottom end, piper cam and some other goodies. once its in and running i'm going to run it on aftermarket engine management.

pictures are the first time its seen sunlight in about a year.

I'll update this thread as and when i can :)

Mark
Once I refurb and add my Strada rims I'll be in touch so sell the OZ ones. I'm pretty certain the Uno Turbo comes with Red Seat Belts. All the mk 1 unos I had, had red belts...

What could it be??? either its that you have 2 ashtrays or no rust ;-)

I cleaned my carpet using carpet cleaner, a bucket and scrubbing brush followed by a hose etc, did it in the back garden. Upholstery cleaner, a brush and sponge should bring the door cards and seats up nice.

When you say rare! do you mean intact rear strut tops, and floor panels intact, if all the interior is out i used white spirit the clean all rubbers and plastic (worst part as were realy green and it worked well) but wear gloves, and I steam cleaned the cards, seats and carpet with my friends jet wash! with a little spray of tfr (realy clean after years of non use) then left to dry in the hot hot sun, turned out like new! and still looks as good as a new car, the ut interior is very durable, amazes me when i ever get to drive it, how fresh it still is at 15 years old! good work! she looks very nice!! Ant!

it was in fact the pictures of the inside of the doors which are infact completely rust free!

the red seatbelts are standard in the mk1 turbo's thought you'd know that already 198645s!

did some more work with the car tonight not much i started cleaning up the footwells of the old sound deadening, seeing as its not going to be a stripped out racer of a UnoT i'm going to get some new sound deadening before i fit the interior all back in,

I've got myself a steam cleaner from halfords and plan to use the pressure washer also to clean seats, carpet and doorcards.

whats the best thing to use on the plastic trim? mine are all really dirty from dust and crap .

Yay! Thought so!

Soap and water, plus a soft scrubbing brush if necessary. Then use back to black and a silicone spray like Amorall. (y)

not much of an update but i'm in the process of hammerite'ing the insides of the doors, done first coat today so 2 more coats and they'll be done,

anyone know a good place to get sound deadening from???

nice job on the doors!! defo worth it if you have minty doors :) ((lucky sod))..

if you mean that heavy sticky tar stuff, yes its good, use a hairdrier to make sure its dry and tacky when it sticks. then hopefully no water will get underneath it.

a cheaper option may be to try and order some from a manufacturer for another car, then stick that in (cut and stick), rather than universal stuff.

gonna get some of the cut an stick stuff, i want to paint all the floor with the black hammerite which i've done the insides of the doors with and then stick sound deadening on top. not inside the doors though as i can imagine water will just stick to the sound deadening

after i painred my floor i used a set of used car mats (which fit perfect) under the carpet as sound deanening, and worked well , nice and quiet and comfy as the uno carpet is very thin! Ant!

I steam cleaned my uno t carpet & it came up like new, don't know if i'd try it on the seats.I know someone who left a set of door cards out in the rain & they warped. He fitted the cards back on but after a while they'd pop off :D
Your uno looks VERY nice

nah changed my mind gonna keep at it do a bit every day or so and eventually it'll be done!

started painted the inside of the uno today, am using black hammerite smooth, not gonna spray it cause no ones going to see it as it'll be covered up with sound deadening and carpet!

started going dark so didnt finish but it'll all be done tomorrow.

Good to here the restoration continues, I'm in a similar situation with my strada, spent 3 days welding and have atleast another 3 days more to do. Need to take some time off.

Is that a hole in the floor I see? Have you tried something like Hammerite Kurust? use a wire brush on the floor, paint with hammerite Kurust, then paint with smoothrite.
