Hei.

I've just received my anti-roll bar. This came with all bushes, clamps and bolts. BUT - there is a problem, minor I hope. My existing track control arms are mounted with clamps and bushes through the front crossmember into the car's chassis. Apparently these clamps differ from the Uno Turbo's. They seem to be L-shaped and also bolted through the car's chassis under the footwell? with the anti-roll bar's clamps. It don't seem as the anti-roll bar clamps will fit onto my existing track control arm clamps.

Can someone please provide me with some information about this, and if anyone knows the part number (or have these clamps) then I'd be happy to be notified. I'm really looking forward to anti-roll my Uno.

Morten.

Mort,

Did you find out about the clamps to fit the anti-roll bar to your Uno? I'm thinking of getting a turbo anti-roll bar to fit to my Uno 45 S. Looking at the Haynes manual it looks like it should fit, other than for the brackets that fit on to the front subframe. It seems it needs an extra bolt or something?

Let me know if you managed to do it and if it was a bolt in swap please!

OK Monty Mort,
You are right, the Uno Turbo has clamps that are L-shaped. They are fastened with the same two 17mm-head bolts that hold the standard clamp on. Then there are two 'tabs' that extend towards the back of the car, each with two smaller threaded holes, for another small strap-clamp (like the ones you have, but smaller) for the anti-roll bar.

Sorry if this is not painting a very clear picture. My digital camera is not set up on this computer, otherwise I'd take a shot. Basically, the Uno Turbo still only has the two bolts going into the car's chassis. So you just need to get the two L-shaped control arm bush clamps, and it sounds as though you already have the other two clamps with the kit. Find an Uno Turbo at a wrecker's and you should be able to get the bits you need.

For that matter, I wonder why you did not get the whole bar and clamps from a wreckers? Anyway...

Cheers,
-Alex

It's done. You need those clamps and an two extra bolts. The nut is welded to the clamp.

The wreckers are very lazy people (my experience). Just hangs around getting their pay check. They didn't realise I needed those clamps. I ordered the clamps through my Fiat dealer from Italy, and it only took two weeks - impressive.

The bar is a little fiddly to fit. How to make it easier: Remove the suspension unit first (shock and spring) - 3 nuts on top, 2 bolts on hub carrier. Make sure you unbolt the brake hose nut on it.

Hey Mort,

I'm looking at fitting an anti-roll bar onto my 45S, and as you've done it to your Uno could you tell the board if it really improves the handling? Is it worthwhile fitting to a standard Uno - i.e. was there a significant improvement on your car after fitting? Does it keep the car that much flatter when cornering?

I might have the chance of getting hold of a roll bar, so wondered if I can expect much improved handling as a result.

Your information would be gratefully received!

Chas

There were improvments yes. But I guess the improvments will differ according to what else is done to the car, or what condition it is in. Mine is lowered 40 mm all around with regular gas shocks (not shorter). Else the car is in good condition regarding bushes, tires etc.

There are two major improvments. One is that it is softer !!! on speed bumps - like more comfort and not so hard on the up and down of it. It's much smoother and still harder... Difficult to explain.

And it is much flatter when cornering in high speed. Not so much that I had expected at low speed, but when doing speeds around 100 kmph (60 mph) the handling is great.

When removing the existing clamps: Remove the little nut first because the bolt is jammed together and you won't get it from above. When mounting: Put the little nut on last so the bolt is tight - else it will just spin around. I managed to break the bolt - too much torque on the spanner. DO NOT DO THAT. Had to drill through the bolt which is very tough and though the chassis of the car to insert a new bolt.

Hi Mort,

Thanks for the info, it sounds like uprating to an anti-roll bar is well worth it.

The ride could be softer due to the roll bar spreading the loads from the two front suspension units, just a theory. Also, it probably corners flatter at higher speeds due to the way the roll bar works. The more force that is pushed down on one side, the more the roll bar transfers some of that force to the other. That helps keep both front wheels firmly on the ground and stops the car from 'rolling'.

I'll look out for one for my little red 45!

Thanks again for the update.

Chas
