I was browsing forum, but couldn't find the answer in existing posts. I have Fire 1100 Uno, with manual choke which has to be pulled all the way backward to start functioning. There is no more functional middle step (I can feel its position, but no impact on carburator). Carburator only responds to fully pulled choke lever.
Any idea?

Hello

The chokes function is to restrict air flow the the engine to enrich the fuel supply until the engine starts, most modern fuels will tend to gum up in carbs and a few bottles of fuel system cleaner will do wonders to help clean fuel lines and carbs out, which in some cases will help choke function.

Engine compression ratios and age of the engine, also affect the function of the choke also.

One easy check is to have a friend help you start the engine while you look at the linkage and determine if the cable is binding, lots of DW40 helps to free up sticky cables.

sounds like your choke wire needs adjusting. try moving the choke by hand where the cable links to the carb. it may be that it's stretched or it could be something else. but then if you can feel the middle step...

have you taken the top off the carb and seen whether the choke is operating properly?

Check where the choke cable is clamped to the carburetor. The outer cable sheath is clamped at the bottom by a little bracket and the inner cable is clamped to the top of the choke mechanism lever by a screw.

What may have happend is that the one of the clamps has worked loose allowing the cable to move about. To check, remove the airfilter and ask someone to move the choke lever inside the car while you look at the mechanism. The choke butterfly should be fully open with the choke pushed all the way in (off) and fully closed with the choke pulled out. Also check to see whether the operating arm/ mechanism has come loose as this can cause erratic operation of the choke.

You can feel a 'mid' position when operating the choke and this is caused by a spring loaded ball that indents on the inside of the choke arm. That may have worn or broken which is why you don't feel the middle position any more. Also bear in mind that the first 1/3 of when you pull the choke out is only adjusting the fast idle speed of the carburetor and NOT operating the choke flap.

Once you check this you should isolate the cause of the problem (y)

Good luck!
