Hi, I am looking for a small deisel car and being a fiat owner I thought I would stay with fiats. I have looked at the Uno 60 1.7 online, does anyone no what they are like to drive and are they any good? What is a fair price?

Dave.

Hi there, I used to know someone from England who was not a FIAT fan, and he thought his Uno 1.7 diesel was fantastic.

As a driver of an Uno Turbo, I don't think I would like the diesel model on the whole, but I'm sure it has a special appeal. The 60bhp petrol models are adequately fast, but the 60bhp diesel would also have the benefit of extra torque so it would 'feel' more powerful, especially around town.

Here's some figures on the Uno models:
Uno 60 petrol
Weight 760kg (3-dr)
1116cc/58bhp power@5700RPM/86Nm torque@3000RPM
Top speed 155km/h / 96mph
Fuel economy 37.6mpg average
55.4mpg constant 90km/h
42.8mpg constant 120km/h

Uno Turbo
Weight 895kg (3-dr)
1301cc/105bhp power@5750RPM/147Nm torque@3200RPM
Top speed 200km/h / 124mph
Fuel economy 31.7mpg average
48.7mpg constant 90km/h
37.2mpg constant 120km/h

and finally
Uno 1697 Diesel
Weight 860kg (3-dr)
1697cc/59bhp power@4500RPM/103Nm torque@3000RPM
Top speed 155km/h / 96mph
Fuel economy 52.3mpg average (!)
70.5mpg constant 90km/h (!!)
41.5mpg constant 120km/h (a sharp drop)

Obviously the Uno 60D would be much more economical around town - if you need to do motorway commuting, the economy benefit disappears compared to the petrol 60 or even 70 models.

If you actually find an Uno 60D for sale, you're doing well. I reckon as much as 50% over the price of a 70 petrol model, but, naturally enough, don't pay Uno Turbo money for one. Just my thoughts. A lot comes down to bodywork condition with Unos, as they are prone to rust in all sorts of places. Get a good one and you should find it reliable and trustworthy.

Cheers,
-Alex

I own a uno 60s 1.7 diesel, cant belive how much less i spend on fuel now, from £40 a week with my 1.6 megane to £15 a week, I am saving about £100 each month on fuel costs.

Thank goodness for diesels. its a really nice car, good around town, its a bit nosiey over 60mph on the motorway but tons of power and tourqe, for a small car.

Awesome cars, pick oneup with tax n test for 3-500. Eat alternator belts but can be replaced in 40seconds

Ok cool I bought a few weeks ago with a years MOT 58k on the clock no tax for £285. Great car and I no what you mean about the fuel costs.

Dave.

Not bad at all, any MOT? When they got no tax they go for pennies cos its 180 quid to tax em!

What you pay on the tax discs, you will save a bundle on fuel costs through out the year.. I am saving a fortune each month.............:slayer:(y) should of gone diesel a long time ago.
