driving home from work on Monday one of my brake pads fell out. I'm rather glad I drive a manual and it was payweek this week.

Not having the pad, I don't know how worn it was, but going by the other 3, it was probably still 1/3-1/2 there.

Strange. I shall be avoiding hills for a wee while.

We replaced the pads last week. Found the piston had almost worked it's way out! Quite dramatic.

Hopefully it was a freak thing and shall never happen again...especially not going down a steep hill.

I'm very glad I'm back in CHCH, it could've been a lot messier if it'd happened in Auckland.

Hi Ankhst,

Thanks for the story! I liked the 'payweek this week' part. I decided to treat my Uno to two new tyres before the WOF, and then found out that I need a new wheel bearing and preferably another tyre. It's an expensive month for my Uno...

I don't see how a brake pad could fall out again, as long as the caliper is mounted correctly with both sliding wedges in place. I have never seen or heard of this problem before - maybe the pad material detached from the backing plate? I don't think you need to avoid hills :)

Cheers,
-Alex
