Hello all,

I have a UNO, 999cc FIRE engine model. I have been told the vacuum
advance diaphragm on the distributor has vaccum leaks. When the
tube from the engine inlet manifold is connected to the distributor,
there is severe jerk when idling. If the tube is disconnected and blocked
so that the vacuum does not leak, the engine runs very well.

I plan to get a new diaphragm fixed in a few weeks time. Until then is
there a way to adjust the distributor for a slight "ignition advance"

When the advance mechanism was working correctly, the vehicle was
able to provide very good mileage, which I am really missing now.

I opened the distributor cap and saew the "rotor" Should I change the
position of the rotor?

Any help greately appreciated.

Thanks,
Sreenath

Hi,

I have an uno FIRE 999cc myself.
I fixed the distributor on my own because I had problems too.
Apart from the magnetic pickups which I changed I also changed the vacum with new one too.

To readjust the distributor simply unscrew a bit two screws that are mounting it. one on top one underneath. Now while engine is running and its hot, turn it right or left until you get a good idle speed. You need a strobo to do a perfect tune but you can do it with your ear roughly. tune it where you hear a good idle speed. go at the back of your car and put your hand at the exhaust. You want the exhaust to spit in a good flow. If you feel that exhaust is spitting knots or is popping then try tuning it again until the flow is nice. I can't explain it better.

Good luck.

Before you move your distributor don't forget to mark its position in respect of the engine head, especially if you don't have a strobo lamp to check the correct timing! The "ear" setting is possible only with carbed engines otherwise you'll start to fight against the ECU trying to re-establish the correct idle speed[xx(].

The value for the ignition timing on the 999cc fire is 15° +/- 2° with the vacuum unit hose connected;7° +/-2° if the unit is disconnected;).

Only a dream inside my head...take a look at the avatar! (Oh...no!!)
