1) Every performence modification will increase your insurance premium.
2) The Uno 1.0ie should be no slower than any other 0.9-1.2 litre car if it working correctly (+/- 1second) and have a top speed of 93mph (which is for example, 3mph less than the MK2 1.2 8V punto). Of course this is a conservative amount and more could be gained. However, the national speed limit remember is no greater than 70.
3) There's very little you can do to such a little engine to get any extra power
4) Any extra power will cost a huge amount/BHP
5) You could try getting it properly serviced to find out if something is wrong, 0-60 should be ~15 seconds (as i said before, the same as any other similar sized car)
6) If you have recently passed your test, spend your time getting used to the car before trying to use power you're yet to be comfortable with
7) Save your money and buy something with a bit more power in the future when your insurance premium has dropped and you can afford it a little more.

Again, it is important for you to understand that ANY engine modification with 99% of insurance companies will cause an increase in premium.

Enjoy the Uno 1.0ie - perfect first car and I am glad I own one.

Paul

Remove the original air filter and insert a Greenfilter or custom K&N filter. Route an air tube from the bumper etc. towards the filter for cold air feed. Will give you a little bit extra at speed. Won't do anything with acceleration.

Morten.

abarth wheels & steering. ia lowered. pg audio. refurnish.

projects: air intake. (used) seats. exhaust-repair. legal tint.

This is what i did with mine, First chucked the standard exhaust, installed a free-flow. After that a nice Simota filter was installed with a pipe to grab all the air from the front bumber, then some decent plugs and cords. Check if your advanced and retard is working 100%. If you have some extra cash, you might gasflow and port the head, but that will cost some serios bucks. Don't worry, London was not build in one day.

See ya :)

i haven't seen an air filter yet who gives you "extra speed". in general, your advice to route cold air in is very good, let the ram effect alone, as cold air is denser and gives you therefor more oxygen which again results in an advantage of more fuel provided by your ecu which again will result in a better throttle response.

but more power?

The Ultimate Interior Enhancement!

More power - no. More speed - no. It's is often a problem for me to ariculate correctly since my native language is far from english... I know exactly what to say in norwegian (except to my girlfriend when I've done something stupid).

But... theoretically more torque.

The car needs speed for this to work. So trying to overtake an M3 at a red light will be a disaster. B) But managing that damn hill where you have to gear down to 3rd, might work in 4th now and still giving power.

And you'll get a nice throttle body sound when revving it up, instead of the air box choking and rattling sound.

More power? No.
