Hello. Could somebody please tell me what the following part is and what is its function:

GA2040S.jpg

It is a Magneti Marelli part with the no. BKL4A inscribed on it.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Yeah, must be a heatsink of some sort, hence the cooling ribs. Looks like it's going to fit a spesific part.

abarth wheels & steering. ia lowered. pg audio. refurnish.

projects: air intake. (used) seats. exhaust-repair. legal tint.

It manages all the electrical information needed to create a spark in the spark plugs.

Although it is a lot more complicated than that, i think that pretty much sums it up...

now that you have it. what will you use it for. might make an ornate draining board or CD rack

99 Brava 100 HSX,Met Cognac

04 Toyota Avensis 2.0 d4d. Champagne. 16" Alloys, Climate, Traction Etc....

If the picture is what it looks like it is the cooling fins for the electronic module on an electronic distributor.

It's not an ECU - just a (more accurate) substitute for a set of contact breaker points.

it works just like an old distributor with a set of contact breaker points to feed the ignition coil, but it uses a 4 pole magnet, a coil, and an electronic module to provided the current to the coil.

I'm sure someone will say the pick-up is a "Hall effect" device, but in this application it is a coil.

With this controlling your ignition you either have a carburettor controlling the fuel/air mixture, or you might just have a Bosch Mono-jetronic fuel injection system* (which controls fuel injection only - unlike newer systems which do both ignition and injection).

* the Panda used this system for a few months only in early 1993 - like mine...
