Hi today i noticed that my main beams are not coming on when i turn the switch on the stalk, they come on dipped and when i put the fogs on but only main beams are not working. The bulbs are all working fine, i can hear the relay click when i turn it to main beam but no lights any ideas guys??
Bloody dodgy uno electrics dont you just love em lol
Loose fuses?
Main beam has a separate fuse each side though, so not nearly as 'dodgy' as you might imagine.
Take the plug off the bulb, check for voltage with a multimeter, there could be a poor earth both sides (not likely either). It's really having both not working that points to a switch fault. Or, the relay you hear clicking - have you tried replacing it? Swap it for the heated rear window relay etc. as a test?
As Alex says, Uno electrics aren't really too bad. Just metal/age/time tends to reek havoc with corrosion and earthpoints.
You could also take a look at the multiple earth point in the engine bay, just down under/near the batter tray. It's a metal bracket, with spade connectors.
It's will probably be corroded and dirty. That *may* be a good point to start with.
its more likely to be the switch or relay as Alex said as both lights have a different ground also the ground is the same for low beam which works. But a simple test light or even better multimeter works wonders. Good luck

I think its the switch as when i fiddle around with it the lights sometimes come on but go out again...Does this mean the connections burned out or something?? Havent really had a chance to take it apart at the mo. anyway i can fix this instead of replacing the whole stalk??
It's Mk2 isn't it... umm... I've never taken one of the Uno stalks apart but presume it's broadly similar to the FIAT Croma stalks which I have repaired. I think there are two rivets across the centre holding the whole lot together - drill these out and pull the contact plates apart gently. All sorts of bits will fall out (like the springs/fingers for the indicator self-cancelling). Plus a spring-loaded ball or two. So work over a large mat or similar to catch the bits, and be prepared to spend a while figuring out how they fit back in
It's not an easy job (I'd give it a 4/5 for fiddlyness) but once you get there, you may be able to clean up the contacts with 600-grit sandpaper etc. - my guess is that the non-relayed dipped beam contacts have melted out of position, as that's what happened with my X1/9 - I managed to repair it with a soldering iron (to re-melt the contacts into place!) and then I fitted a relay at the fusebox to prevent the damage happening again by keeping the load off the contacts. I don't think the Uno has a relay for main beam either, so might be worth checking what's going on?
A couple of pop-rivets hold the switch together satisfactorily when you've finished, but make sure everything clicks as it should first!
