Just toying with an idea at the moment, price of course could be prohibitive, but anyway.

The Uno 60s is fine. Engine has about 73,000 miles. Runs perfectly, no major rattles, no smoke, starts first time, etc.

The bodywork is (unbelievably) in excellent condition. Paint is almost as it was from factory, lovely deep burgundy colour. No rust! Fully wax oiled underneath.

She's running 14" rims, with 175/60 rubber, (similar in size to Uno T or Punto GT). In fact the rims are from the Punto GT. She's lowered by just slightly, by 35/30 mm (front/back).

But the 1108cc engine is fairly low powered, and so I'm looking at (possibly) Uno T reconditioned units. What's the general feeling on this. I have some time, so that's not a problem, the base car is, as I mention above, in excellent condition, and perhaps I could even sell on the existing 1108cc engine and gearbox, to re-coupe some of then expense on buying the reconditoned Uno T unit.

I *dont* have to do any of this at all, of course. But of costs, practicality, and time aren't prohibitive, I've a nice big double garage to play around in, so your thoughts and advice are most welcome......:)

You will need a complete Uno turbo for parts. Not just the engine. Good idea

Pretty much what I was anticipating tbh.

Now.... let I wonder where I can source a rotted out Uno T, as long as the mechanics are (within reason) okay....

As Steve says. So many parts are different, there would always be some bit you needed (a steering rack gearchange linkage bracket, an antiroll bar left upper clamp...), it would be a long, slow, expensive project if you'd bought just the engine.

I'm sure you will find a complete Uno T if you wait a while. Several have been pointed out on this forum as being almost 'free to a good home'! There are of course transport costs etc.

By the way, your Uno sounds excellent - long may it stay that way

Sadly I doubt that the 1108cc engine will recoup you much money, as they tend to last almost forever ;) It would of course be an upgrade for a 999cc but most people these days probably couldn't be bothered... though jjhepburn and I did just such an upgrade.
