I don't know - no messages to this forum and then two in one day !!

Has anyone any information about the FIAT extended warranties - My car has just come to its final year warranty extension (4th to 5th year). When I made contact there is a message saying that the company has gone into administration and that's it. I have contacted FIAT and as usual they didn't seem to know much or be very interested in my problem.

thx

Hi Thomas P,

Hmmm, interesting.

I was under the impression that years 1 to 3 are under Fiat UK, and 4 to 5 were at the discrection of the purchaser, to be arranged with their local dealer. I have not yet paid for years 4 and/or 5, because this can be done nearer the time [car only 6 months old!]

What company had you contracted with?

Yes you're basically correct - up to three years the warranty is with FIAT (i. e. FIAT UK) but 3 - 5 yrs they are FIAT approved warranties. Mine was purchased at the time I bought and I did it through Desira (big FIAT dealer in SE England). The actual papers have the FIAT logo all over them and it goes with an AA membership - there is also an 'Autoexpert' logo on the cover aswell.

This is the second issue I have had with FIAT who it seems to me sell good cars (our Ulysse seems very good to me) but there doesn't seem to be much interest from them when one contacts them with problems after sale

So Desira has gone into administration - great!!!

What correspondence have you had about this? i.e. from the administrators - is there no arrangements to transfer this to another company? [wasn't this similar to the Time/Tiny Computers fiasco a few years ago?].

No Stu Desira is still alive and kicking it's just the people who operated the extended warranty - Warranty Holdings or somethiong similar

Hi,

There is a new number which I will try and find, but to be honest look at www.autotrader.co.uk and you can get an online quote for a warranty which has better coverage and also includes wear and tear. It is also much cheaper.

Thank you very much - I didn't know that this service existed. There are 3 suppliers of this service in autotrader. FIAT seem very very weak in this area anyway I think I'll choose one of these three
Many thx

Thanks for the comments folks. I've chosen warranty direct they seem reasonable to me but they all do when they are taking money from you. Naturally I've heard nothing from FIAT. I have to admit to not being too surprised. They don't seem to have heard of the phrase 'you're only a customer once'
