As '06 rolls out, my thoughts are turning to a new set of wheels for next year. I've been really happy with our Ulysse, and I would've almost certainly gone for another of the same had FIAT not stopped selling 'em. So . . . any guidance out there on a C8 versus a 807 (or are they all the same) or any other similar carts worth checking out?

A C8/807 is exactly the same as the Ulysse, so all depends on the spec I suppose - plus minor trim differences, look of headlights, rear lights, etc.

Not really kept up to speed with the MPV market - do you still need 7 to 8 seats?

I'm in the same boat.

We sticking with a MPV.

Sliding doors for us were a must so that ruled out most of them, leaving the Voyager, 807 family, Kia.

The Kia looks more dated than my 6 yr old Uly so that was ruled out, and to be honest I had set my heart on a Voyager. I loved it more when I test drove one.:slayer:

Then I started looking for one and the more I looked, the more it looked dated (interior). Upon taking a closer look I thought it didn't warrent the extra money. The finish wasn't that great.

I looked at the C8/807 and have decided to get one, oldest 04 reg, newest 55, ideally the top spec one. Just waiting for the right one to come along at a realistic price and I'm in no rush to buy.

Well, I have to say that I sold out, just before the end of the 3rd year warranty, when the car apparently falls to pieces. Decided on an 807; which in my eyes has always looked the ugliest of the bunch, but my own purchase for some reason doesn't look so bad. There was very little to choose between 807/C8 - even the options offered were pretty much identical, in the end Peugeot got it on price and availability. I forked out more than I would have liked - things like parking sensors standard on the Ulysse were extras, and things I didn't need like electric doors were standard. But of course! And the choice of RT3 was either in your face 7" colour screen (Nav+) or none - I rather liked the understated "Nav" version that I had. I couldn't bear to exchange that control console for an ashtray, though!
The manual's written with a different slant (looks like it's even written in English), so maybe it can be a help to some Ulysee owner at some point. Not too much on the RT3, though, after the basics it directs you to Peugeot's technical website where you can pay 10 euros/hour to access the instruction manual (well, actually, accessing the RT3 info may be a free service, still to try this).
Hope to keep my nose in on this forum, s'been a big help to me over the last few years, and even though I now have a lion on the bonnet I've still an affinity for FIATs, having owned about 10 of them over the years.

Actually you already had a lion under the bonnet of your previous car (with Fiat labels...).
Congratulations for your new car, it should have an improved engine as well if you have chose the 2.0 HDi version.
You may find manuals and much more at Eurovan2.com, as the information at this site will keep being relevant for you as before.
