I spoke to the Connect people and if you have recently updated from V5.3* to V5.4 then you need to re-register your Connect system with the service centre (even if the Fiat dealer did the upgrade). If you don't the messages will be scrambled and the system won't work properly.
It only took a few minutes to do.
