I need to get a second car and an 8 seat diesel Ulysse would fit the bill.My prsent car is the 2.0 el petrol P reg with which I have towed my caravan but it is not ideal. The power comes in at too high revs which means you are doing more than the legal limit when you reach the power band.Anyone have experience of towing with petrol and or diesel.
Looking at various info it would seem cars with the 110 bhp hdi engine (they were quoting for the synergie but I guess the range is the same) suffer an ongoing problem with exploding clutches which cost megabucks to put right.
Question is is this the same engine in the Fiat and are there known problems or is the jtd engine a different thing. What was and is the range of diesel engines available?

Here are some useful towing threads:

Although looks like you have posted on some of those

Oh dear yes I had forgotten I had that conversation before but
what I said in the last thread you mention isnt quite what I am querying now.

(Incidently the clutch still seems to slip sometimes and then bite hard and recover ..now 110k and towed this year in Peak district and Cambridgshire ( went for a flat area for autumn break:) )

If you go to www.honestjohn.co.uk the Telegraph motoring correspondants homepage you can research cars for good points and faults. They list the pug citroen and fiat variants under the same heading more or less and mention this exploding clutch on the 110 bhp diesel units. Is this the unit fitted to the Ulysse and is the later jtd engine at risk as well? Anyone have experience of this problem ?

Is there a list anywhere of all engine variants installed in the Ulysse with torque figures etc.

Apologies if I repeat myself myself myself...

The 2.2 jtd is a 128bhp unit so I presume it is a different unit and as Stu will verify can be remapped to provide 165 BHP or there abouts.

Both Diesels will do well. Auto gearbox is not recommended in this case.
Generally auto gearboxes are excellent for towing but this particular one will not stand the load.
