I have an 'N' registration, petrol, Fiat ULysee and everything was fine until I noticed that when indicating, my fuel gauge would flicker from side to side in unison. My local garage looked at it and said that two of the wires in the wiring loom were corroded, but could be repaired if I could get a new part, but that if I got it from Fiat it would cost more than the car was worth.

Well I left it, the car continued to run well (apart from this) and had the car serviced. Two weeks later, when the revs dropped too low it cut out, but would start again immediately.

I have to say now that I know nothing about cars at all, so bear with me please. I took it back to my garage, who in turn took it to somewhere that could test all electrical connections and they narrowed it down to a few areas.
The car by this time could hardly be driven, was cutting out and restarting all the time. The garage still insisted that I need this wiring loom, so I phoned a few local salvage yards, including East Lancs, but drew a blank. One of the salvage yards asked me whether I wanted the 'small one'? that went to the speedo or the 'bigger one'?.

In the meantime, we are thinking of getting these other areas checked, throttle, idle valve etc?

As I said, I am totally ignorant about all this and am relying someone out there to please give me some advice and information.

I love my Ulysse, as I cart my grandchildren about in it all the time, but don't know what to do next. Has this part that I am searching for got a name, apart from wiring loom? The garage just said it is a loom? What is the difference betweern a small and a large one? Does anyone think, that this is the cause of my stalling problems? Is this search going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack? Should I pay out to have these other areas checked first?

Please help!!

The only times I have ever renew looms on Fiats (saying that your car is technically a peugeot) are when someone has buggered about with the airbag terminals(stilo's) so I wouldnt renew your loom. The only other real case for renewing loom is if connectors at say ECU are severly corroded & the terminals dont come seperate...thus new loom.I have repaired looms that have been cut through with welding gear, you will be surprised a what a good electrician can do.....I suspect your problem is with as you mention 'throttle'.

A good Fiat dealer will be able to help, but dont forget to search through the forums here as this idle problem has croped up many times before;)
