Hi, I've just received a phone call from my wife saying the car won't start. A red light keeps flashing on the security code box. She has waited for it to reset but to no avail. This is the second time we've had problems with it. Looks like it'll cost us a tow and new security code box.

Is there anyway to over ride this or just do without?

TIA

tom

when we got our ulysse a few years back the first thing we did was to remove the security box ,a friend that works with fiat told me you will end up with trouble all the ones used as taxis end up here to get the boxes taken out and all you do is with the engine running pull the plug from the back and remove the box .we even got a plastic insert that give you yet somewere else to store more things [thats the wifes job] hope this helps(y)

Many thanks for the replies guys. The car is currently with our local Fiat dealer and I'm tempted to tell him not to bother replacing it as this is the second time in about a year that we've had problems. However my wife likes the idea of the code box as it's the only security we have on the car.

Also asked them to check out the revving when at idle and the jerking when in fifth gear. Both of which, since reading the forum, appear to be quite common in the Ulysse.

Anybody any idea as to how much a code box plus fitting should cost? I can tell you I'm not looking forward to the bill.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again,

Well, we've got the car back. The Code box has been disabled and the lambda sensor has been replaced. Total cost £283. They also wanted to replace the near side track rod end for £150. I took it to a friend who works in a tyre centre which also does some mechanical work, cost £17.50. I actually thought he had said £70.50 which I thought was great, half price, but no £17.50 :)

I don't know if I'm being over sensitive but sometimes I think I can still feel the slightest of shudders in 4th and 5th gears. But compared to what it was it's driving great. No more reving at idle and tick over is a lot smoother.

If anyone knows where I could get an insert to fit where the code box sits I would be grateful.

By the way this is a great forum filled with very helpful people.

hi were should this code box be ? as i don't seem to have one ? :( also this reving up at tick over ,mine does that at traffic lights etc it revs up a few times and then settles but is ticking over too high .anyone know how to adjust the idle speed thanks

Hi Nixe, our code box is located to the lower right hand side of the steering wheel. It's a hinged key pad that swivels down. If your's has already been removed there may be a small insert instead, like a small coin holder/shelf, like lanciak69 mentions in a previous post.

Thanks lanciak69 I'll have to check with my local dealer and see if they can order me one.

Cheers,

tom
