Hi,

I think I have broken my car. The auto box display suddenly stopped displaying which gear I was in. I switched off the engine and tried again and all that happened was the display worked for a few seconds and then the * symbol started flashing with the sequential up and down arrows, then it goes dead.

The car seems to drive OK, but I think it must be a gearbox fault.

Any ideas before I go to the dealer.

There was a sensor on top of the autobox which detected where the selector was. Undo the screws and twist it so it is in the right position, you can use a multimeter to detect when it is in the right position.

What am i looking for with the meter?
an open circuit or a closed circuit?
and where am i connecting the meter too(the 2 connectors on the front)?

Sorry it's been a long time since I owned the car. From memory you had to look for closed contact in either park or neutral, pretty sure it is neutral. So adjust sensor until you get closed contact on neutral and if that doesn't work try park.

Hope that helps.
