I am still having the occasional problem to do, i think , with this idle control valve.
Giving up and going to a garage (Citroen Franchise) where this remaping chipping genius can put lots of gear on it and diagnose. He said usual thing is an ICV and when I said I had done that he said you have to cancel the fault with the ecu or it keeps imitating the problem.I thought disconnecting the battery did that. Any opinions?
Another person told me you have to really clean not only the port where the ICV goes but also the entire throttle body.I cant see how you get it off .There is only one bolt showing on the left hand side and the whole thing seems to be made partly of breakable plastic.
I cant get the eper to work to work it out so has anyone done this?

i cleaned the pipes from the valve as well. a long bit of string small bit of rag tied to the end soaked in carb cleaner pull it threw .i cleaned the valve ,pipes last july before holiday started playing up again last month just ajusted tick over a little higher till i get round to cleaning it again she gets a full service and check up before we all go on holiday ,i just do a little when i get time oil and filter tonight easy job ,did our other car a volvo 850 not as easy ,plugs air filter, and tyres at the weekend but i dont mind the ulysse has served us well coudnt live without her :D

I removed the hose which goes from the oil filler chamber to the trottle housing right next to the ICV which was almost totally blocked and must of been the cause of oil build up in the trottle, and just put a plug in it's place. It was suggested to me by a forum member a while back on a previous thread.

The rest of the trottle was cleaned with a spray by removing the airfilter lid and large hose straight from the lid to the housing (two jubilee clips one on the little hose between large hose and oil filler and one large one on large hose securing it to the housing, and removal a 10mm nut on top of the engine behind the large hose) makes any sence?

Once sprayed and left a short while I did have differculties starting her up

But I am sure my main problem was solved by replacing the ICV (ebay). As since doing this I have had no problems *touches wood* I did have to reset the ECU after doing this by disconnecting it for a short while ect as revs were very erratic

If you want to try replacing the ICV yourself PM me your address and I could send you my spare one to try out to see if this solves your problem. I got it second hand and was in use working perfectly untill I won a new one on ebay and decided to try it and I just stuck with the new one since.

It might by worth trawling back through this section looking at older threads on idle problems etc to get more tips.(y)

and sorry for long winded reply:D

good luck

Thanks Donald.I have in fact replaced the icv from a firm in Hull I found with google.Wether or not its a faulty one I am not sure so thanks for your offer address on PM Ill try anything to solve it.I know you mentionned the map sensor being a similar source of trouble...are there any other sensors that you know of? At the rate Fiat charge could be easier and cheaper to go and by a box full of the B&**dy things and replace them all.

Hi guys, new to the site and still absorbing all this useful info.

I don't have a manual and would love to have a go at replacing the ICV on my car as I am having similar revving problems at idle. Are there any sites that would show a step by step DIY. Also I have a juddering when putting the car into fifth gear on m-ways, would this be related?

TIA
