Went to adjust the mirror on my 97 el and it only moves up and down and not side to side.or in /out if you like. When presssing the control a faint whirring can be heard but little else happens. The glass seems loose when pressed in that direction as if somethings come adrift. Is the only way to get at the gubbins to try and prise the glass out?Is it glued to some sort of operating arm. The Fiat repair disc gives no repair info just the details of taking ot off the door.New one someone said was £300 Gulp...

Hi

The mirror has 3 motors/servos. One folds the whole assembly back flush to the window, the other 2 are held in a plastic assembly which is screwed to the inside of the mirror case. The mirror glass is held onto this assembly by a 1mm diameter wire spring clip about 2.5 to 3 inches in diameter. Look closely at mirror glass edge and you should just see the 2 ends of the spring clip about 3mm apart. On Peugeots, the two ends are at the bottom of the glass, on my Ulysse they were in the East or West position. It helps to see them by motoring the mirror glass to it's maximum position in either direction. With long nose pliers, squeeze the two ends together and gently 'jiggle' and push away from the mirror glass towards the inside of the mirror housing, when you feel it has released, the mirror glass should come off. If the mirrors are heated, you will have to disconnect 2 wires from terminals bonded to the back of the glass. These are fragile. However, you may not need to remove. The 2 servos operate the assembly to which glass is clipped via opaque white nylon levers about half inch long. Each lever ends in small ball joint which clips into sockets on the assembly, if you are lucky, one of these has come adrift and you should be able to fit it back again using long nosed pliers, the levers are quite flexible. Let me know what you find, I've had to replace a damaged passenger mirror but I've kept the serviceable parts so if something is broken, I may be able to help. I tried to access the eper but no joy so I can't guide you to diagrams. Hope this is useful.

Regards

Wow..many thanks for that.At first chance will try and remove glass as you describe and see whats there.Hard to think of a reason why they (The ball joints) should come off.perhaps its been whacked without me realising.
I`ll be back-- as the man said!!!:)

Hi

If you are unlucky enough to break the mirror glass, I've just noticed there is one on Ebay for passenger side. £10.00 start item number 4620626247.
