firstly i had a rubbing sound comming from the front passenger wheel, so on my way too collect the new wheel bearing all of a sudden the same wheel started too wobble, like sumone had unscrewed all the wheel nuts (i s**t my pants) thinking the wheel was gonna fly off, contacted the garage the next day and he said wheel bearings have collapsed, so took it down and he changed them total cost £70 (inc buying and fitting) took it for a test drive and the wobble was still there :bang: then he said your inner cv joint is nailed, phoned a few places and you cannot buy this :( you have to buy a whole driveshaft, went back to garage fitted that total cost £90, now i still have this wobble on occasions:cry: mainly when i have it in gear but not pressing any pedals (ie coasting, spec when on motorway) anyone had this problem before or anyone shed any light on this for me as im gettin slightly peed off with replacing parts when it might not need replacing.

im seriously thinking of getting rid of the ulysse as ive lost all confidence in driving it specially as i do a lot of trips down to plymouth (220 mile trip) spec with the kids in it

many thanks

Jay

Is this the 1.2 20valve Ulysse produced in 1998 or is it the 3.6 v8 produced in 2007? A little information regarding the vehicle spec is very useful!!!:D :bang: :worship:

Thanks the V8s are a little rare, lol. It sounds almost as though it could be something stupid like a tyre out of shape, these tend to happen irregularly as they are normally effected by temperature so they will go in and out of shape with use. Try knocking it out of gear when you next experience it and see if the fault remains or goes. If it goes then its likely to be transmission or perhaps a fuelling problem, if it remains then its likely to be tyre, or wheel, or possibly a bearing. Check these and come back to us.

its deffo not a tyre problem as i had that tyre changed on thursday (another £50 odd quid) i also got them to change the back wheel with the front wheel thinking it might of been buckled, but it wasnt, I'll try the knocking out of gear next time it happens, theres a very good poss it summat to do with the transmission cus when it happens if i put my foot on the clutch it goes. But what could it be in the transmission ?

the weights are usualy the size of a postage stamp but a little thicker.but i would jack up the car and look for any movement when shaking the steering track rod ends etc(y)

How did the info about the exact Uly model help you writing all this? :chin:

Regarding the problem, If anything to be changed it's your garage (n)

this wobble has now come back with a vengence, it seems to only happen when you put the power ON, it doesnt happen when in 1st gear at all and it goes when you put your foot on the clutch.

anyone got any ideas ?

im desperate now, as i need this sorted asap

many thanks Jay:bang:

theres no knocking noise, spose you could call it a vibration but its more of a wobble, had a RAC bloke come and take a look, he checked if it was a engine mount or a gearbox mount, and he said he dont think its that as the engine is solid and he really needs it on a ramp with it in gear and turning the wheels to find out what it is, he said its poss the drivers side driveshaft,
but poss is not really enough for me 2 go out running 2 buy a new one as im pissed off buying new parts for it not to fix the problem

a very peed off JAY:cry:

just been out and tried that knocking it out of gear , its perfect when you get some speed up and knock it out of gear, it's a smooth as a babys ass, its all i ever want it to be (sad i no)

does this mean its a gearbox problem then ?

cheers JAY

if you were to jack the wheel (whichever one you suspect to be rubbing) can you actually wabble the wheel? You've already ruled out bearings, by having them changed, so it could be bushes, but then again maybe not because its only happening when you're in gear. Which leads me to suspect the differential, and gearbox, do you only have the wobble in a certain gear? It could be that the gear is missing teeth  or worn out. Failing that is the wheel properly balanced, maybe the front and back ones were not balanced properly, you may never have felt the vibration from the rear one?

no the wheels dont wabble at all when its jacked up, it wabbles in every gear apart from 1st, and yep the wheels are balanced and tracked ok, so you thinkin a new gear box ? boo bloody hoo:'(

It can also be one of the shafts connecting the gearbox to the wheels.
If one of them is bent, it can cause the vibrations. Maybe 1st gear is too slow for it to be noticeable

I don't think it can be a drive shaft or any of those.
They should still creat the same issue even when coasting.
It's very strange that it only comes on under load.
If it wasn't for the fact that a wheel bearing had actually collapsed I'd have been looking for something gearbox or even engine related.
Strange that dipping the clutch makes it go.
Is it load related?
Ie if going up a steep hill is it worse at the same speed as going downsaid hill?
Could it be some sort of engine miss fire?
Or even the EPS system playing up?
I know when the EPS kicks in it can really feel weird.

hi i have just read your post with interest ,i have just purchased my 97 r reg
2.L s i bought it with a gearbox problem ! it was making all sorts of strange noises in 1,2,3, gear but was OK in 4th .

so i drove it home 60 miles. on the drive home i noticed a wobble from the front of the car when you applied power ,but if you drove it gently it was not apparent. i just assumed it was a problem related to the gearbox .

but this week i have had the gearbox rebuilt by a gearbox specialist and have refitted it to the car , i also changed the outrigger bearing on the drivers side drive shaft as it had play ! but guess what thats right wobble under acceleration .
