It's been a bit sluggish starting for the past couple of weeks, and Monday it went cough cough cough splutter... so OH took battery out to charge it. Put it back in again showing full charge - dead. Garage across road had a try - dead. Brand new battery - dead. No clicks, splutters, clunks or whirrs.
We strongly suspect something to do with the immobiliser but can't find anything useful online yet.

Does anyone have any clues?
Thanks.

hi,:)
well worth assuming the main earth cable has failed - not uncommon , and you'll have flexed it removing the battery..;)

look here for more testing info;https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/318839-electrical-gremlin-thread.html

halfway down it mentions adding additional jumper EARTH cables..,
good luck - do let us know what you find, (y)

Thanks - I'll get OH to have a look tomorrow.
I did have a go with the locking / unlocking, and turning ignition on and pressing a button on the fob to resynchronise it. The fob does now work; the car locks / unlocks, lights / stereo / ignition comes on, doors open / close. But still no sign of firing up. So a dodgy cable seems very possible!

Starter motor apparently. AA chap says he's run full diagnostics on the beast and that's what it is. Odd - he was getting a click from the solenoid which we weren't, otherwise we might have guessed!
Thanks for the help anyway - add this to the annals of weird...

well at least it'd be a simple - if not cheap fix,
please do let us know if it is the actual fix,

Charlie

Seems to have done the trick... just in time to take the boy back to Uni, as we found their little car has a split fuel tank, just before they were about to set off.
Heigh ho...
