Just purchased a new Ulysse 2.2JTD Eleganza with options.

One of these was the full Connect Nav + system. However, the main dealer knows nothing about it, and we are all having trouble registering the vehicle with Connect because we don't know where to find the 10 digit Connect Code in my vehicle. I have spoken to some one on the Connect helpline, but she said I had to speak to main dealer. Main dealer spoke to same person, and gave same info.

I have tried going through Config and Telematics menu options, but all it says is Connect and Roadside Assistance deactivated.

Any idea where I can find the code?????

Overall, great car, great engine. All the family love it. Lot of mags slagged it off as not being a drivers car. My other car is a 2 litre Ghia X Mondeo, running on Optimax! But I get just as much enjoyment from the Ulysse.

Now looks like the code is the chassis number, with the leading 0 taken off and replaced by a 521! This was supplied by the Connect people themselves. Watch this space to see if it works once I get round to phoning them up to register it!

Hi,

Let us know how you get on, we have a Ulysse 2.0 Petrol auto on order with lots of extra's (triple s/roofs, electric pack, 16" wheels, electric doors). We ordered in early July and it is due in about 3 weeks (hopefully).

Did you have to wait long for yours.

Wish I read this first? I just asked all that to you on the JTD query!!!

We didn't bother with electric doors [look good, but £500], triple sunroof is good for light, but would never be opened with the Climate Control on all the time plus lose head room, electric pack was pushing my budget [my wife and I have similar driving postions, so seat and mirror memories not useful, plus my Ford Mondeo electric seat is broken].

But we did order 16" alloys, with tyre pressure sensors, Connect + option as well, which included large screen and multichanger, pivoting front seats [we have 2 kids so useful at KFC], Super visibility pack [which my dealer screwed up on - car delivered with vis pack only - they had to refund £60 and pay £260 to have it film tinted professionally - they were not willing to replace all the glass, even after i mentioned my solicitor, and I wasn't going to wait 14 weeks whilst they ordered a demo model in with tinted windows so they could replace all my glass!].

Also ordered long luggage cover - still not with my car; the dealer tried to fob me off with the luggage net, which is standard.

Ordered car in Mid May; came in second week in August, so decided to wait and get new plates on it Sep 1. Long wait, but worth it.

Still got teething problems - Connect + won't Connect [dealer is useless, only ever done one on a Stilo] and Rear light unit filled up with water with my pressure washer [to be replaced ASAP]. Plus on Day 2 the locking wheel nut cover came off, and fell into the 2" Fiat cover on the alloy. Obviously, didn't know it was that until wheel came off for inspection, but it sounded like the brakes were about to come off at low speed [like a set of keys jangling around]. Felt really stupid taking it back!!!!

Hi,

You had to wait a while for yours as well then. I like gadgets which is why I opted for lots of extras but I am thinking that perhaps I did slightly over spec the car. I went for the sunroofs more for the light, but I expect they will probably never be open. The sliding doors we ordered as we are expecting a baby in a couple of weeks and I was a bit worried that as he/she got older the fingers might get caught in the sliding doors at the rear where it is difficult to see them when closing the doors, the electric doors have a trap sensor. We ordered just the visibility pack as when you order the electric doors you have to order the very rear sun blinds as well.

The 16" alloys seemed a bargain, do the pressure sensors work well ?. The electric seats are good for us as my wife has the seat much further forward and I always end up having to adjust everything including the mirrors. Hopefully they will last !!!.

I havent't ordered any mats or the load cover as I thought I would wait for the car to arrive. I will buy the 5 seat load cover though.

We went for the petrol as it was the only option for automatic at the time. I would have preferred the 2.2JTD, but it is not available with auto which we wanted for lots of town driving. I did rent a 807 2.0JTD for a weekend to see what they were like, but with the auto box it is quite slow.

We bought via a UK Fiat only broker who sources cars from UK Fiat dealers only, so it is not pre-registered or an import and managed to get a £4K discount after lots of haggling. They are even lending me a car next month until it arrives. The factory options caused a delay.

Hi.

When we came to buy, I looked at all the brokers - same great savings out there to be had, esp. when dealer only offered £1200 disc. to begin with. But when he price matched, and threw in a set of Mats [worth a lot] and a tank of petrol, couldn't really say no. He even matched an internet quote for HP [Fiat Auto Finance initially flat rate was something like 6%]

Now glad I went via local dealer, esp. with teething problems; I have my own hotline to them now.

I love gadgets as well - Connect Nav+ is awesome, even at £1100 option.

My wife childminds, plus 2 of our own [4 months youngest] - I did want the electric doors really, but pushed the budget. Haven't really thought about fingers, and kids in and out of it all day.

Now that we have dark tint all round, very private in the back - you can do whatever in there! The sunroofs will look impressive though from a light point of view.

No idea whether the tyre sensors work - I think they are inside with the alloy wheel - the only way to tell is deflate a tyre and drive about; ain't tried that yet. I think the 2.2JTD is a different beast to the 2.0JTD - you can tell just by looking at the specs of it.

Hi,

I think with the discount you got I woudl have bought from the dealer, but none of the dealers would come close to your price. No wonder the sale guy got sacked, we managed a meagre £1,500 max from the dealers and they made it seem like they were cutting their own throats to do it.

We also have a newish Fiat Punto which we bought locally, so I will have to be nice to them when it comes to service issues. Unfortunately it is our second new Punto as the first had a electical fault which the dealer tried to fix at least 5 times, but in the end they decided it would be easier to replace the car and agreed this with Fiat. We had to wait another 3 months for a replacement as we had lots of options (me and gadgets), but they lent us a new Sporting in the meantime, so overall the service was excellent as we got a loan car free for 3 months and also got the new Reg on the replacement and 12 months tax again.

Let me know if you ever figure out the Connect part of the Nav system.

With a baby on the way in the next 3 weeks, are the cars comfortable to sleep in as it may be the only place to get some rest !!!!!!

Hi.

The Connect Plus system is great. Full colour Sat Nav, Phone, voice commands for everything, etc, but Fiat in Milan cannot get it to connect as part of my free subscription. The idea is you press a green button or SOS, phone sends a text to them, and an English speaking operator phones you to ask what you want i.e. travel info, weather, local hotels, etc.... All the other functions work apart from this!

They have tried about 8 times to send a signal to the car from a satellite, but it won't accept it. Now being transferrred to a second level technician, and await their phone call. Dealer knows jack about it! It is something phoning a UK 0800 number on a mobile, to be forwarded to Milan and speak to a South African woman! Who then phones back on the car mobile to try and activate system.

The car is comfortable, esp if you remove some seats and recline them all fully!! I bet you are excited still - we were, especially when I knew it had been delivered but then waited 3 weeks for new plates - agony....

Looking forward to it, I forgot to ask can you activate automatic door locking on the Fiat version. On the Peugeot, you pressed and held the door locking button (a roof mounted withc I think) and then a message popped up on the display saying "Auto Locking Enabled". When you reach a certain speed the doors lock.

This is pretty useful for London.

I think automatic door locking is on as soon as you start the engine, the ignition makes a beeping noise to notify activation. There is also a roof mounted button which locks all the doors [can't remember display], plus a separate button near the window controls to activate child safety. I will confirm all this when I am next in the car! OK! I only use it at weekends - boo hoo. Stuck in my Mondeo rest of week to commute to work - now that shifts.......

Been reading through the posts with interest and thought I'd share my thoughts (problems) on my 2.2JTD Prestigio.

The car from a driving perspective is great although extremely "rattly", more than I would have expected from an MPV. This is the first Fiat I have bought and first impressions are that Fiat UK are hopeless.

My experience began when the dealer could not give me a delivery date, eventually as it dragged on he started to check the system and eventually located a car to my spec although it was a different colour, this car was unallocated and it seemed to me that they were churning out cars in whatever spec they felt regardless of what customer orders were on the system. When it arrived it did not have the blacked out windows I requested although since I couldn't wait any longer (and liked the colour) I took the car.

Since then I have had the following problems (if anyone has had the same problems and had them resolved I would be very interesetd to hear -it would be great after 5 months to tell them how to fix it!!)

Unable to have the Connect + connected. Original dealer hadn't a clue, took it to a local dealer who provided me with the registration form and of course I needed the code. Called the original dealer who provided some instruction but when I tried this I got nowhere, he then suggested I speak directly to Targasys (the provider) because he didn't know what else to do! The dealer suggested pushing the SOS button and a menu should pop up under which you should find the number required. I get a message, "Emergency and Breakdown Calls Disabled" on start up, dealer can't get rid of it.

Window blinds catching on electric sliding doors - apparently this is now a known design issue. When the side door slides open the pull up sunblind can catch and be destroyed. Originally we thought our young daughter had partially pulled the blind down and then opened the door completely trashing the blind. We asked for a price and were told £200 to replace! At that point we argued the case and they agreed to replace under warranty. Since that the exact same happened on the other blind this time my wife was in the seat and whilst we still couldn't work out what happened it certainly wasn't down to anything she had done. When we took it back to Fiat they immediately offered to replace it and when pushed they admitted that the blind was being re-designed. We are still waiting for replacements 5 months later.

Car alarm going off without reason - when the car is locked using the remote the alarm will go off maybe minutes, maybe hours after it has been set. Initially we suspected it was too sensitive and low frequency noise was setting it off but there does not seem to be any pattern to it. The dealer has been trying to sort it for 5 months and they now have a field technician coming out. The car needs to be locked with the key to prevent this happening however each time I left it in with them I would lock it with the remote and the alarm drove them crazy until I had to tell them how to disable it!!

Driver's door would not open from inside. This is the only problem they have fixed in the 6 months I have had the car.

Airbag faulty - warning message and light comes on. They claim they know how to fix but it requires a part, been waiting 3 weeks on the part.

Some other minor but nevertheless annoying problems - Connect + screen periodically locks up, either the time freezes or the map does not refresh.
Missing drawer under the driver seat, local dealer insists that I should take it back to original dealer and won't order me a new one, given the problems I felt this was the least they could do.
"Prestigio" badge broke off when washing the car, I now drive a "Prestig"
Oily footprints on carpet after first visit, they have now cleaned the carpet for me but it took 3 visits before they eventually remembered to do it.
Retractable mirrors don't always return to operational position when car is started.

Our plan had been to keep this car for the long term but now I can't wait to get rid of it.[:(!]

Hi Keggers!

Wow, you seem to have had a lot of problems, only of which one or two I can relate to.

Lets go through them in order!!

Driving - you are right, but I still ordered the car even though all the mags rated it as a non-drivers car i.e. 3 out of 5 stars etc. I must admit, cannot find any rattles though.

Delivery dates - I was promised 12 weeks delivery, 8 at a push. It actually came in the 11th week, and then I waited to get new reg.

My Connect + is still unconnected. I have been dealing with a Trudance in Milan Targsys centre. I still await a call from their technician level advisor. The dealer is useless. Even Targsys told me how to get the Connect Code, but this related to a Stilo. The girl [not Trudance] would not believe me when the keys she was telling me to press were not on my screen. A mechanic at my local dealer said what she told me was Stilo based, not Ulysse! All this just to get a code, which I now realise is chassis number tweaked - see earlier [this was gleaned from a fax to Connect UK]. They display on start up, however, does NOW not show 'Emergency and Breakcalls disabled' - they have managed to do something remotely to the car, but yet they can't get a satellite signal to recognise my system fully - I await a phone call from Italy........

Our window blinds are up 100% of the time, and never catch! We don't have electric doors on the Eleganza we have, but can't see this being an issue. Maybe our model has been revised.

We also ordered darkened windows, as part of a super vis option. Car did not come with it. Dealer originally said tough, and that I would have to wait 14 weeks for a new demo to come in, and so glass would be replaced. I said that would mess up the security codes, and threatened solicitor. They then paid £300 to have it window tinted with film at a local specialist, and refunded the £60 option fee. I now have a darker tint, no complaints!

Never had an issue with the alarm; it seems to set and unset without going off.

Never had an issue with the doors as well, nor the airbag lights nor the Connect + LCD screen. Never locked up at all!!!

I think the spec changed on the missing drawer - I don't have a rear cigarette lighter as well [see other topic]!

Retractable mirrors work 100% of the time; badge still on!

Our car is only one month old, just over 1000 miles on clock! Maybe I have all this to come. WIll keep you informed, but basically I have no complaints. Lets see what Poggy comes up with when his is delivered... Watch this space!

Oh,I forgot. One other problem.

When I pressure washed the car, the rear nearside light unit filled up with water. However, my local Fiat dealer have now got a new unit on order under warranty, no questions asked - they didn't even want to see the unit!

For sale, one used nearside light unit - any offers?

I think keggers needs reminding he hasnt actually bought a fiat, but really a peugeot, and not to think is problems typical of all fiats I have had five fiat cars in the past and had very minor problems. So far I am only having minor warranty poblems with Ulysee these are mainly ralated to the poor build quality I think the french guys on the production line knew when they were building a fiat and couldnt give a toss

graham

I thought all French guys didn't give a toss - the nickname for Renault that the Telegraph motoring guy uses is Ren-Fault.

I used to own a Clio - and a lot when wrong with it. But I was only about 20 at the time and thrashed the nuts off it.

Hi,

Tha last posts were a worry, but I will wait and see. My wife has a Punto and although the first one she had from new had to be replaced after 3 months due to a electrical fault they couldn't trace, the second new one has been excellent.

Apparently our Ulysse is on the boat on it's way over and should be here in the UK in 8 days, then a PDI and collection. Looking forward to getting it although a little concerned now.

Has anybody been able to find out where the Ulysse is built, is it France or Italy. I thought it was France, but some dealers insist it is "assembled" in Italy. If it is the same production line as the 807, then there can't be any real difference in quality, unless they only build Fiat's on Friday afternoons.

I will be interested to get an answer on the COnnect Nav as if they can't get it to work I am asking for compensation for having paid for something which doesn't work. This might prompt them to get it working.

Keep us upto date on the problems and hopefully fixes and I will let you know when mine arrives as it is an automatic petrol version.

Hiya again!

Still await my phone call from Milan. The trouble is, the number I have got to phone from is only open 8am to 6pm [I phoned once at 5.45pm, and instead of the usual call diversion, got ansaphone]. This is a bit of a pain when I leave for work at 7.15am and don't get home until after 6. I have tried to get the wife to phone during the day and speak to them [after all, her car, I am only paying for it], but doesn't want to know! Blames me and my gadgets......

Believe me, my local Fiat dealer is just as concerned about the Connect Nav as I am - I will chase them if nothing happens, and demand something back. BUT I reckon it will get sorted, once the Italians pull their finger out. Anyway, I thought it was standard on the Eleganza [I paid extra for Connect Nav PLUS]? That would be their argument.....

My fiat dealer said built in Italy with an Alfa engine - what do they know!!!
