Technical Aftermarket Stereo

hi, i have just bought a 2003 eleganza, the radio has stopped working, and from what i gather in the forums it is the radio tuner.
i have bought an aftermarket stereo a kenwoodkdc-3047 from halfords and they say i do not need a patch lead, but i have taken out the stereo i have and the leads do not match up at all, am i doing something wrong

Do you have sat nav and phone built in? Mono or colour screen? If you have these after market head units WILL NOT WORK. Also the info screen will not work. What were the symptoms? What was coming up on the screen?

when i 1st bought the car the radio worked, but about an hour later it just stopped picking up a signal, the telephone works ok as does the cd player the satnav does work but i do not have a disc to install it.
all the displays are working ok and other that i think the emergency blah blah is disabled, as a warning keeps popping up on the screen when i 1st start up, other than that all is normal, except for the fact it will not pick up any station, fm or am

As I said in my post the after market unit is useless to you as you will not be able to tie it into the display screen or the steering wheel controls. Take out the unit and see if it is N1 or N3 on the lable. Do you have the manual for the unit? if you do try a "soft reset" if I remember correctly this is holding down the "dark" button for more than five seconds. hard reset is remove fuse number 11 inside the right side of the fusebox, wait a few seconds then plug it back.

daft question, but could ya aerial lead have come out of the back of the stereo?

i took the stereo out of the car for about half hour, would this be as good as a hard reset??

i asked in halfords about a harness and they wanted £92, as you can imagine i declined rather poetically, and the fact that i would lose the display makes a big difference, so it's a replacement or repair!!

anybody know a company that repairs these babies. :bang:

lol if only, no i have checked, and i tried fitting another ariel just to check and still no reception.

The aerial is NOT the one on the roof, thats for the phone, its on the rear passenger side window, make sure its properly connected. The only way to sort these units is to do a methodical check, try the soft reset first ( after checking the aerial) There is very little point in me trying to help you if you wont answer the questions I ask,(for very good reasons) I have been through this issue and it is difficult and time consuming. Again I ask, what unit have you got? check the label. Is the screen displaying a station and frequency? Read my previous post, you can forget Halfords and ALL other suppliers, the display and steering wheel controls WILL NOT WORK with after market head units. What do you mean by "the satnav does work but i do not have a disc to install it." It either works or not, Do you have a UK disc, they are Nav Tec. I have discs for upgrades but can not help you unless the problem can be isolated. Again I ask do you have the manual? if you do read the section about finding the software version installed. If you can give some feedback on the above I MAY be able to help you,

The aerial in the rear side window has been checked and apparently no problems with the signal there i have checked the connections and they are all good.
i tried the soft reset yesterday and no change.
the unit is an RT3 N1+ 02 with a monchrome display
Radaio frequency is being displayed
The satnav is displaying stuff but i do not have the maps cd
No i do not have the stereo manual for it.
The Version for the radio is 5.30

OK Good, Are you getting any of the voice instructions? hit the end of the left stalk and listen, you should get "sorry" or something like that. Will it read back any messages that are stored? Go to www.eurovan2.com and search for a copy of the manual. There is a wealth of info on this site. I would also check the connection on the back of the unit, the speaker wires are in a block and can have a poor connection, push the complete connector in firmly especially at the bottom of the connector block. I don't want to seem defeatist but also have a look at www.pavlek.de I don't speak or read German but I believe they repair the units, hope it won't be necessary. Hope this helps
