hi guys,

my car wont start when its below 3C in the mornings, the computer says glow plug relay circuit fault. my question is the relay is £47 from fiat, but i have no idea where it is, anyone know where the relay is?

im guessing there is a smallish black box just behind the ECU, I think thats it but im not 100% sure anyone have any pics or knowlege or anything lol?

thanks
james

for the last fortnight ive been starting it with easystart in the air intake, but again this isnt good for the engine is it?

;) If this is a mk2 jtd I think if you open the bonnet and remove the air intake for heater/air con (four clips/two half turn screws) by the brake fluid pot square box bolted to the frame with connections underneath is the relay your looking for?

Hi, I have an 04 Ulysse, 2.0JTD, and we had the glow plug relay done on ours a little while ago as it was completely burnt out. You are correct, it's the little black box you can see just under and slightly behind the main ECU on the passenger side of the car. Although, I do have to say, don't hold your breath for this to be the cause of the problem. We had ours replaced, as well as the glow plugs themselves, and the damn thing still won't start without a sniff of easy start if the temp is below 3 ( basically anything low enough for the car to give you the Ice Alert).

Hope you get it sorted, we're still working on ours, but I'll let you know if we find a permanent solution.

 Are you sure you are getting full power into the relay after it was changed? Sounds you are manualy doing the job of the relay by adding easy start to top up the first start of engine at low outside tempretures? seem to me to be a lack of voltage at the relay on cold days.

this is ever so strange... i changed the relay then for 2 mornings it worked ok, it started at 0c and even -4c however yesterday morning it was 3c and it didnt want to start again.

althought even when it did start on the 2 mornings it had a few seconds (3-4 secs) struggling before it went, maybe this is just the cold? and its a fussy diesel!

its like its trying to go but it sounds like its not turning over fast enough to start, but battery is fine as with easystart it goes great and ive tried a powerstarter on the battery just to check and its fully charged. what is really weird now when its starts with easystart it brings back an anti pollution fault for about 20 mins then it goes? wierd huh?

any ideas, thick oil or something maybe?

Hi, I have the 2.2jtd 02, its been in one garage now for 2 weeks and still wont start, now heading to fiat for them to look at, looks like my wallet is going to get a battering

oh dear, sounds painful let me know how it goes!
