My 2004 Ulysees eleganzas back brakes are staying on. New callipers and brake pads have been fitted and made no difference. The Fiat dealer has had the car for over 4weeks and has been in contact with Fiat UK who think it may be the Servo. Originally quoted me a price so I told them to go ahead with it. They now think the engine has to be removed to replace the servo and tried to quote 3 times original price and say that its not worth doing! They want me to come in tomorrow with view of trading in my Ulysees. Any suggestions.:eek:

Did you get the quote in writing?

Have you tried taking it to an independent or to Peugeot.

There are some jobs that state the engine has to come out, but are possilble.

Clutch is one of them, so is the Turbo on the JTD's (Just fiddly, and you have to remove the OS driveshaft, but it can be done), I have read on here that the Brake servo can be done too, Although, with just the rear brakes sticking on, I would be more inclined to suspect the master cylinder rather than the servo.

I had same problem but only rear right and front left because of split system, I replaced master cylinder and cured it, seems to me to be a different scenario with both back brakes sticking. Front brakes have more clearance so I would check if there is back pressure at the master cylinder on both circuits, if so then perhaps the servo is wrong. did this happen on replacement of pads or what?

Didnt get quote in writing. Ive just collected the car from the dealers (in disgust) and am trying a different mechanic. The Fiat dealer said that as its a left hand drive car converted to right the engine, gearbox and dash have to come out before fitting servo. Thanks for your help.

Didnt happen on replacement of pads but warning light came on saying "brake pads worn". Got pads and new callipers on but no difference. Thanks.

Hang on,

If both rear brakes are sticking, have you thought that the issue could be the load compensator? As digger58 pointed out, the braking system is split diagonal NSF/OSR & OSF/NSR for safety reasons....

Hi Guys
Its common for the brake hoses to disintegrate at about 15 years old even if the fluid has been changed, if you have single hose feeding the rear supply then i would suspect that one, the abs release return normally works on each corner.

may help

Tim

nightmare vehicles, the previous model was far better for reliability, as a last ditch go on the EV1 Facebook group as there's loads loads of knowledgeable people there
