Cam belt broke on 2005 2.0 JTD, local garage can`t get injectors out anyone any ideas?, they are saying it would be easier + cheaper to put in second hand engine. What is a reasonable price and any ideas where to get one, all suggestions gratefully welcomed. Thanks

Sorry to here your news, mine went in December last year and i'm still sorting it out !!
Firstly there is no chance of removing injectors with the engine in the car.
So the engine has to come out, if you decide to get it repaired the final bill is going to be about £2500ish.
There are two companys on ebay that advertise replacement engines they will collect your car and and swap your engine for a second hand unit cost is about £1850 they are helpful on the phone but I decided to rebuild mine.
If the injectors can be extracted from the engine in usable condition you will save about £800 , mine were destroyed, also the you will need a new set of rockers my first quote was for £45 each plus VAT (there are 16 of them!!) but I sourced a set for £132.
Sorry to give you the bad news but thats just the way it is.
I will be contacting FIAT for some goodwill but don't expect anything.
Good luck keep us posted.

Search this Forum, I found a German company making a puller for the injectors, may have a go at making one myself in the future if I can get a look at one, I can't believe they are that hard to remove. I have posted previously about the "drip tray" that fits under the expansion bottle and is supposed to stop water getting onto the cam belt and the injectors, I got one from Belgium and fitted it. I think the water is also responsible for making the injectors difficult to remove, that and the lack of room. I would be very slow to condemn a head with an injector that can't be removed, especially if the head is off. I don't know what interval is suggested for cam belt change buy I always err on the side of caution, make sure the water pump and tensioner and idler are changed as well.

Update ;second hand engines coming in at about £2000ish . Newest plan is to drill out injectors hoping damage is not too bad {just new rockers req as good compression in 3 low compression in 1} probably 4 new injectors and rockers req ,where did you source rockers for £132, and has anybody bought new injectors at a decent price.Maths goes something like this. £400 spent on car so far with engine on the floor. £800 max on new injectors. £150 on rockers. say £300 to put back together. New cambelt tensioner etc?[would have to change anyway in any second hand engine].Hopefully at end of day i have a known engine in working order.Should i change my name to Hans Christian Anderson or is this a reasonably realistic scenario if there is not too much damage once head is off.

written two replys and neither got posted whats happening ??????????????????????????????????????????

The injectors on mine were a nightmare and were destroyed to get them out so pray yours can be extracted !!!!
4xinjectors Northampton Diesel £736 01604 755321
Replace ALL of your rockers they will have hairline fractures Automotive Services £130 01604 722064
Check camwheel hub mine had sheared its key FIAT £26
There will be lots of extras like head gasket, head bolts, oil, belts, air con recharge, oil seals etc etc
mine has so far cost over £2000 including new alternator but I would have saved over £1000 if the injectors came out in one piece !!!!!!!
good luck

Andy
