Hi everyone.

I've seen this place before, but thought i'd join ya'll.

I've had my 2.0 JTD Eleganza since March 2003. She is in tomorrow for her 24,000 service. She's on 24,500, but no sign of the indicator yet!!She has the Full sat Nav, electric doors,.3 roofs etc...I actually risked taking her to Normandy just last week. I got to within 20 miles of the destination without a map...

I've had a fair few problems...constant alram going off, windows that open in the night...in the rain of course. I've had the carpet replaced due to the rear s/f not fitted correctly, which resulted in a 3 foot line of mould along the floor...

All of the above has since been sorted by the dealer, no fuss at all. I've had lone models (2.2JTD) for over a month, but its all been friendly and good.

My only gripe is the quality of the phone..any idea's on this?

I also have an annoying rattle on the heater.

The above two will be mentioned tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum:D As far as i´ve heard the phone quality isn´t great but usable;) .You can try reading old posts or maybe a search to find most of those answers:)

Hello JF, and welcome to the forum!

You seem to have one of the rogue cars that are out there, I am sorry to say. At least the dealer has sorted it all, which is a step in the right direction.

Phone quality SHOULD be improved by version 5.41 of software. Plus it is recommended that you put some dense foam behind the mike - as smokeme said, have a search on the forum.

Heater rattle? That is a new one on me. Which area exactly?

It's soumds like it's coming from under the centre console, below the centre vents. An annoying whirring noise, it doesn't matter what setting of the fan strength, the same sound is there. You don't notice it when listening to music, but for e.g talksport radio, it's just there :(

Thanks guys, i've had a read of some posts.

One quick thing, and not wanting to sound a ****, but those audio ports in the glove box. Can i plug like a portable dvd player into it and watch films on the large dash screen?

I'm expecting not, but i've never bothered asking the dealer...

Is it whirring all the time or every so often.
Mine does it every so often with a cd thats not playing or the map disc in the player.
If so try taking it out and seeing if it stops.

Can't answer the audio ports as mine have been connected to the rear dvd screen.

Just back from service. Upgraded the s/w to 5.4. The new display and voice for sat nav is much better than before.

New problem found by dealer.

Rear suspension not correct, its causing a starnge wear pattern on the rear tyres. So she's back in for more work soon.

We have agreed i can live with the window issue, its just one of those things...

Hi,

The window things is a known problem and the software for the control unit needs updating to the new version. I think this involves a new control box, but it is a known issue. It is a serious security issue and somebody on here lost some of their stuff because the window opened during the night and somebody leaned in and stole everything they could reach.

The phone will improve with version 5.41 software in the RT3 unit (not with V5.40). As Stu mentioned, pack the rear of the mic casing with foam to reduce reflection and background noise.

The sockets in the glove box can be used to connect a DVD or other video source, the dealer will need to activate it and if you want it to work when your moving he will need to increase the speed cut off limit.

The whirring on the fan is likely to be the auxillary fans for the rear of the car, the way to check is to switch off the radio and then press the "rear" button on the climate control, it will not stop the whirring, but it will change the speed so you can confirm if it is the fan motors. You should also be able to alter the noise by changing the fan speed using the second row controls.
Apparently there were some dodgy bearings fitted to these fan motors, I have it on mine but am waiting for it's service in October to get them fixed. One guy on the Eurova2.com website even had a burning smell as the motors had stopped turning.

Good luck with it all and let us know how you get on.

Cheers for the tips Poggy, she will have to go back with 2 weeks, so i'll certainly bring all those points up.

I have my car back from the recent visit. The door contacts where replaced on one side which was meant to have addressed the problem of the windows not closing (if left open) when remotely locking the car.

Perhaps it was my fault for not checking at the dealer...but today, after getting some fuel, my window was slightly open..AND REMAINED SO when i locked it.

ARRRRRGGGHHH

As an aside, the dealer hasn't heard of 5.41 yet...

The whirrubf fan noise is very intermittent, so i might as well never mention that again!

Regarding the window, have a look at http://www.eurovan2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1186 and have the dealer check that this hasn't been set on the window that's not closing.

Some dealers know of 5.41, some don't - I found that with mine, the parts department knew of it before the mechanics (as it appeared as a new part on their list).......

The noise from the fan is a slight annoyance but as with you, mine is intermittent. I'm tempted to track it down and give it a squirt of WD40, but it's very rare that it's silent in my car (usually with radio/CD, or on phone, or with kids shouting) so I'm not really bothered by it that much!

I'd forgotten all about this place.....

Here's an update on how i'm getting along.

I'm now on 42K and about to shell out £450 for new front discs and the 48K service...although seeing that thread about getting the discs and pads for £76, i might rethink.

After being fixed, the old window problem came back after a new months.

Here's what you just end up living with....

No single click to shut driver or passanger front window, they go down ok though...

If open, windows don't close when remote central locking pressed.

In addition, the lumber support lever on the drivers seat doesn't do anything..

Something has gone wrong with the gear selector....it's now hit or miss if you get first or reverse..when going for first.

The rattle on the heater is now so annoying, i avoid using it whenever possible. It appears to get better or even silent atfer 30 - 60 minutes driving...worse at start up.

That's about it on the fauilt side....i feel lucky to a degree,

The electric doors, CD player and Sat Nav are all great...except that i stil have Yoda's cousin directing on backing vocals (courtessy of 5.41):)

I much prefer the 2 d image compared to Tom Toms 3 d....

keep on trucking.
