The timing chain broke the other day and garage say that all 16 valves are shot, rods etc. will cost 1200+ to fix. The car is about 8 years old...is this really the end or is it worth repairing? Would i get anything for scrap?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Jamie:bang::cry:

I personally would get a recon engine, be much cheaper I would have thought. What would you have said the car is worth?

Jon.
I think the car would be worth 2000that is if the engine worked, well maybe less it needs side doors fixing up as they don't open from the outside, wing mirrors, tyres and gear box crunches on 3rd. so it has a few issues.
:eek:

prime example of why when we brought ours with no belt history it was the first thing we got done.

Try looking on eBay for a used or recon engine. they are plentiful.

couple hundred for the engine, and a few hundred to get it fitted.

Oh, and remember to change the belt on this one!

Hi, What engine have you got? There seems to be lots of talk on this site about Ulysses wiith chain driven engines, I would love to see one, please post a picture of these elusive engines. Certainly I have never seen a chain driver Ulysse in Ireland. I have only ever come across a belt driven engine, both 1905 and 1997 cc units.
From what you describe a 2nd hand engine is what you need, please change the belt, tensioner and idler while it is out.

iirc it ise 16v deisel that has a timing chain. This unit is part belt, part chain driven, and the timing chain can snap without warning.

Ok folks,thing to remember about Fiats,as made today...buy,use for a max of 3yrs,sell on! Good cars ,but the fiat ideology is make cheap,with limited economic life,,well works for them!

Only one thing wrong with that idealogy, its actually a Peugeot/Citroen:eek:, nothing wrong with them if they are maintained properly

If you had a premature failure of the timing belt in your Citroen C8, Peugeot 807, Fiat Ulysse and Lancia Phedra 2.0 or 2.2 HDi diesel, built between 2002 and October 2006, e-mail: phes.tenterden @ gmail.com. You are not alone.seu
