Hi,

The new V5.41 software is available from the Eurovan website (www.eurovan2.com) for download, it is meant to improve the phone, not sure what else.

I am about the try it.

Andy

Do let us all know how you get on?!

Hi,

I have just updated and there seems no real change except you can divert/undivert to mailbox by holding the red key. The street names are not read out by the synth voice. Not sure about phone quality, it has been reported to be better, but I haven't had a chance to test it myself.

The update went well with no problems, I used Alcohol 120 to burn the CD.

Andy

How long did it take to do the update? I remember when I did 5.40 it seemed to take an age with an awful lot of RT3 unit reboots before it finally came up with the new version - is it the same with 5.41?

Hi,

Took a long time to start the update, but once it started it only rebooted once or twice and then started up as normal. It also spit the CD out midway during a reboot and then loaded it back in again to continue.

Andy

Hmmm, interesting - reckon I will give it a go later, especially if it seems to work ok.

Good news about those synth street names - it used to be an interesting double act.

Put it on earlier today - not used it with navigation yet but everything else seems no different really (apart from zooming the map in and out which brings up the hourglass a lot less than it used to).

It seems to start up slightly faster than the 5.40 version I was on before, and feedback from someone I called today (who has heard how bad the phone was) is that the phone is much clearer (but some of the strange background noise is still there (but a lot quieter and it doesn't get in the way of the conversation like it used to)

Hi,

Tried the phone today and the quality has improved, apparently it doesn't sound as harsh anymore. Not sure how they did it, but it appears to have made a difference and also the voice commands work more consistently.

Andy

Have looked on the Eurovan website and can't see whre to get v 5.4 - could someone paste a link for us less well educated souls please.

Thanks

The download is being hosted from a 3rd site though. Link is

(Link has been removed by admin at the request of the eurovan site owner, the download is intended for their members only.)

Note that you'll need something like CloneCD or Alcohol120% to burn this to a CD!

My initial post-upgrade observations are as follows......

1) Make sure the CD you use is not physically damaged in any way and is clean (check for finger smudges on the surface etc)
2) Follow the process in the Eurovan2 Tips & Tricks section for the 5.40 upgrade! (link above)
3) TA messages are received when playing CD
4) I've noticed a significant reduction in the quiet times on the radio when the RT3 is looking for a TA broadcast message
5) Phone quality is much improved (but still not perfect - there is still some background noise, but it's much reduced)
6) Under 5.40 I had the cut-out on the A/V input increased to 250Km/h so I could use the menu buttons while moving - I never checked what happened to the A/V input while driving though. Under 5.41, all the menu buttons etc are active while driving, but the A/V input is terminated at 5Km/h
7) The announcement of street names with navigation instructions has been removed from the audio guidance, but the street names still appear on the screen
8) In general zooming out takes less time and less hourglass displays than before
9) We don't have a compatible TMC broadcaster in the UK, so can't comment on any TMC functionallity

Not noticed anything else yet - more once I've run up a few more post-upgrade miles! [8D]

Opinion.... If you're not yet on 5.40, the upgrade is definately worth it. If you're on 5.40 and you use the RT3 phone, the upgrade is also definately worth it. If you're on 5.40 and don't use the RT3 phone, I don't know enough about any other differences to comment - possibly worth it!

Funny, that first link didn't work, although I did get to the download by going through Members section on EV2.

Oh - I know what happened there - the full stop to end the sentence became a part of the hyperlink. I've edited that so it now works! Oops!

John

I presume that the need for CloneCd or similar is to achieve the quality.

Once downloaded, do you extract it from the ZIP file and then burn it or just bung it in as a ZIP file? (this may sound ignorant, that's because I am when it comes to these sort of things!)

Down load it unzip it and then burn the file called image ccd on to disc using the image burner in clone cd or ahead nero. if you need clone cd give use a shout will email you it.

The suggestion of CloneCD is because it knows about the format of the file without having to faff around with image settings in some other tool. Nero 6 will also apparently work. I tried Nero 5 and got a coaster, so on the suggestion of someone on the EV2 forum downloaded CloneCD and installed it as a 15-day full functional demo and it worked for me! Alcohol120% is another package that'd do it without faffing about, but the authors of that have withdrawn it from the net - I suspect they're under pressure from some other companies because it did too good a job of copying protected media!

Now burnt it using CloneCD s/ware, and when I try to read disk can see all the files on there :)

Just need to put it in car now, maybe later! I am off to local at 9.30pm tonight for last orders, so don't want anything to go wrong...
