hi, i am new to the forum and need some urgent help. I purchased a 2000 fiat ulysse 1.9 td a few years ago and have had constant problems. After a replacement engine the car has run fine for about a year or so and then today out of the blue the car has started to puff out white smoke after filling up, this is constant at idle but when you rev it seems to get worse to the point that other people cant see where they are going. I have been told that it could be the head gasket but it doesnt seem to be mixing oil and water or pressurising. If the headgasket is the case would it be chaper to get the headgasket replaced or once again a replacement engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated . :(
Yours in despair

White smoke generally denotes water not oil. The fact that it get worse when you rev up would make me think it is likely to be gasket related or filter with water getting into it. I am no expert but this should get you started. Have a look at Vauxhall slash GM/Saab with the same problems as it is exactly the same engine. I have a Saab with the same lump for instance. As for a replacement engine this sounds very drastic. plus if you got the engine a reasonable supplier they "should" look after such an early failiure.
