Morning all,I'm sure one of you clever people will have the answer. Just put a new particulate filter on my 53 Eleganza 2.0jtd, how do i put new fluid in reservoir and do i need to bleed anything or reset anything!!!!!!!

Why what was wrong with the old one?

You need special pump to put fluid in & fiats computer to 'tell' the car how much fluid is in the system as it calculates the rate of additive to fuel.If you dont do this light will come on etc etc

Thanks Moderator,The old one was full up,I suppose that means an expensive trip to dealer then, OH DEAR.Will it be o k to drive without the fluid?

THE FILTER IS FULL UP,WITH SOOT CRAP AND PARTICULATES. Where can i get a complete fill up and it done for £79,AS IT IS BONE DRY AND NEEDS 4LTRS. at £40 per litre.

Its suppose to be clogged (thats its job) but the car regenerates the filter or a artificial regeneration can be carried out at a garage using examiner by raising the temperature to 600oC but the fluid actually lowers this temp to 500oC...this burns off these deposits.

Dont know where you got £40/litre from...we carry out this process for £79 at service.

£40 LITRE CAME FROM DESIRA PARTS AT BARNET NORTH LONDON,AND THAMES FIAT SLOUGH.wHERE ARE YOU BASED? I was never offered regeneration of filter only part ex replacement.

parts prices isn't my department....but done one few weeks back & customer was charged £79..........p.s. this stuff(EOLYS 176) is highly flammable!!

Just made a phone call there.......kit is £79 + hours labour so your actually looking at £130 odd.

i will get the exact RRP tomorrow it used to be under £25 but its closer to £50 now!

We are seeing an increased demand for it, as you say i assume its due to the mileages getting up on them now!

Is the fluid Eolys DPX 42?

Interested to know what the generic name for it is rather than the Fiat partnumber.

Seems there maybe more mileage to try and source it via non Fiat sources.

Having done some digging on the web there's a lot of traffic on this with various people suggesting removal of tht partical filter completely.

I also saw one post tat stated that they had successfully cleaned their partical filter with castic soda.

I know Fiat take them back for factory cleaning but maybe an inbetween quality clean would be worth the effort even if it just gave you 20 or 30 K miles more.

Basically, as other are, I'm not happy at the idea of a £500 plus bill for cleaning a filter, topping up some fluid and resetting the computer.

If it's practical I'd rather try and clean the filter myself. Top up the fluid myself and then get the delaer to reset the computer.
