Hi,

Just been on a 190 mile round trip, mainly involving dual carriageways. As we left this evening, the EOBD light came on [amber light, bottom right of steering column lights], and telematics flashed up 'depollution system failure'!!!!

The manual says relates to fuel feed/ignition system failure. However, continued on with the light on [as per manual], and didn't suffer any drop in performance nor economy!!!

Will be phoning dealer on Tuesday - just wondered if anybody else has had it????

I know it is a long shot but could it have something to do with your engine modification?

Out of interest, will the dealer frown upon this retuning or not?

Hope you get it sorted :)

I have no idea - could be anything! I have been pretty lucky up till now [i.e. look at all the other problems the other guys have on here].

Car wasn't being driven hard, and mod was a few weeks ago - if anything, I would have thought it would have happened then!

Just another hassle to sort - weekends already manic as they are. Oh well!

Hi,

Is this the warning for the special particulate filter which re-generates itself on the diesel. I doubt if it is a result of the engine mod, unless it has been causing the engine to output more particulates. Anyway I would just keep quiet about the mod.

Good luck

Andy

Hi Poggy,

I intend to keep quiet. I have no reasons to believe it is from the mod anyway.

I will check out a bit more info on it tomorrow - flagging a bit after todays' driving.

Stuart

This flashed up on mine yesterday when I started the Ulysee to take the kids out. I should say the log information but no warning lights as far as I could see. I ignored it and drove about 5 miles without any other warnings. So nothing to do with the Mod.

Hi Stubie,

Thats what I thought - the mrs had it come up a few weeks ago as well. The light stayed on, plus in warning log.

I drove 80 miles with it on yesterday - now about to go for a long drive; will let you know the outcome!!!!

Hi,

I forgot to mention that mine came on a few weeks ago and a message falshed up to say "pollution control fault" or something very similar. It stayed on even after switching the car on and off. Fortunately it was booked into the garage that evening for the gearbox fault so I just took it there and left it with them. When I went to collect it they had just reset the error log and the mechanic said that he had seen a few others with the same fault, it was something to do with the body computer. Anyway mine is a petrol and it hasn't come back since.

Let us know what they say.

Hi,

Took it out today for a long spin - light wasn't even on once ignition started, no more warning lights either, so presume everything all ok now.

Think I will just monitor the situation, can't see any decrease in performance/economy. If it comes on again, will take it in.

Hi,

I think I have seen the message 'Pollution Control Fault'. The reason I say i think is because it flashes very quickly. What I have noticed is that it tends to happen if you turn the ignition key to start the engine too quickly, i.e. before all the startup checks have been made, dash lights going off etc.

Lou,

Do you have a diesel. My wife noted it flashed up again the other day, but only for a second or two. When we had another diesel, always had to wait for glowplug light to go out; in this car, light is out within seconds so don't even bother checking it anymore.

Car is still very nice to drive :), so no major concerns.

Yes, mine is a diesel and it could be that the Glow plug light has not quite gone off but i'm never really looking at whether the lights are on or off when it does happen.

As regards driving it I will post some fuel\performance figures in the relevant thread as I have just done a 690 mile trip abroad.

Different scenario but I had this problem when I refuelled after running out of diesel. The antipollution warning was displayed along with the engine warning light, initially thought I'd damaged the Cat as the manual warns that low fuel can cause surges resulting in damage, however after approx 3-4miles I restarted the car and the "fault" cleared. I suspect it may have been deposits on the sensor caused by unburnt fuel on it's way through the Cat which were burnt off after a few miles.

I had this message appear this afternoon while driving home - no obvious impact apart from the beep, message, and light. I'll be popping it into a dealer (new one) tomorrow morning to see if they can see what's up!

Will update the thread once I know more.

Mine doesn't come on any more - I reckon it was a bad batch of fuel - I always fill up with Shell diesel from the same forecourt/pump. The first time I saw it was from another garage, never used before.

Since re-filling up, no more lights :), yet

Funnily enough, today was the first time I've put Shell diesel into my car. The message only started happening once I was down to about 1/2 a tank, and I've just topped it up with BP diesel (what I normally use) and the message and the light is no more (so far).

Lets see what tomorrow brings, but I'm gonna let the garage take a peek at it tomorrow morning anyway just in case they spot anything else that Arnold Clark of Stourbridge messed up while they were playing with my car. I've already found some bolts not quite tightened up properly (not on anything vital, but it's now got me nervous), and some of the cables/pipes that are supposed to be clipped up/retained were floating around loose... [:(!]

Hmmm, interesting. Maybe it is all part of the engine fuel map, and any variation to the fuel causes a wobbler.

According to the manual, if light is on you should get decreased economy and performance - this is something I have not yet noticed. Maybe the system is too clever, and takes anything from the norm as an error. Who knows [?]

The change of fuel thing was probably coincidental. I took the car into another garage today (most helpful), and they found that the fuel pipe into the diesel filter wasn't properly locked on, so there was probably some air seeping into the fuel system. This looks like yet another piece of bad workmanship from Arnold Clark in Stourbridge from when they last put my engine back together.

The hose was locked on, and I've done about 150 miles since, and it all seems OK.

Reading the manual, it says this error happens when there's a problem with the fuel intake, so I guess that this would fit the bill! I did notice a slight drop in power when the message came on (it did it a few times yesterday), but it recovered almost immediately - also fits the bill if the pipe connection was marginal!

While the mechanic was looking at the problem, he noticed that the pipe was leaking quantities of diesel into the engine compartment when the engine was running, which could have been nasty had the pipe come off completely, and also explains why I was getting a pretty nasty smell from the front of the car yesterday (as the diesel was evaporating with the heat of the engine).......

At least it's sorted now, and I know what caused the error. I definately won't be back to Arnold Clark in Stourbridge again!

Also, while the car was in, the mechanic turned on the A/V input, and set the deactivate speed so high that it doesn't cut out. I've hooked my digital camera up to it, and it's a pretty clear picture once you tweak the contrast/brightness a bit.

Hi,

Interesting comments - never took it to the dealer in the end, just waiting to see if it re-occurs.

Yes, I too have hooked up a digicam and vidcam to the inputs - the clarity is pretty good, considering. Plus not illegal to watch whilst driving, yet, coz it is not a CRT screen :) BUT they will get you under the 'driving without due care and attention' clause.

Not sure in real terms what I'd use the screen for, as I have a nice laptop that plays DVDs that has a much bigger screen, but it's nice to know it's there to use should I need to.

The guys at the new garage seem much more switched on and interested in the Ulysse than the old garage. Funnily enough - they are part of the same chain (just a different location - the regional HQ rather than just a branch depot), but it shows what a difference having the 'right people' at a garage has!
