Hello all,

I know I mentioned this is another thread, but probably overlooked in passing.

I noticed a few weeks ago that on both sliding doors, on the bottom black runner, the black paint has started to come away, leaving bare metal underneath. I only have manual doors [V], but presume similar to setup on electric doors.

Anyone else come across this yet? Haven't yet approached the dealer, but will do soon. That reminds me to get that windscreen condensation VIN checked out! Oh joy.

There's a big therad about this on the Eurovan2 forum, but I've not had the 'pleasure' of this one myself (and I have electric doors).

There seem to be 2 trains of thought..

1) Get the dealer to replace the runners under warranty.
2) Let the paint get removed and just keep the metal well greased!

The only concern is while the paint flakes away, it may get in the wheel and cause damage...

I will check out that 'therad' some time; where does the time in the day go to!

My first choice would be for the dealer to replace under warranty - I may phone them soon to see what initial reaction is.

The thread is here....

Mine shows signs of wear, but considering how often I use the doors, the level of wear doesn't surprise me, and all I see is a dent in the paint where the roller goes - nothing that looks like the paint is actually coming away.

I also see that the wheel that rolls on the paint is well lubed- perhaps that's your problem - the wheel is sliding rather than rolling?

Hi,

No problem on ours, I think the runners are alloy so they don't need any paint for protection. It is likely that any paint finish is going to wear off pretty quick given the loading. I suspect the paint is just decorative.

Ours is exactly the same as on the EV2 site; the rear doors do get used heavily everyday [2 school runs a day, etc].

Still, least being alloy helps. I will still query it with Motorvogue and see what their advice is. I would prefer new ones, which I can then keep well greased, if that helps.

Hi,

I think from reading on the Eurovan website that the grease would make debris stick to the rails and it would be abrasive to the wheels.

As they are nylon rollers I think a silicon based spray would be better. We have some special spray for our boat which we use on the nylon sail runners going up the alloy mast, fantastic stuff.

Andy

Excellent idea, one of my best mates owns a couple of boats [lasers or something, I can never keep up]. I will ask him about this silicon spray!

Cheers

Did you get any joy with this with your dealer, My offside door runners have started to flake and I am certainly unhappy about it, the car is only 10 months old. I shall be speaking to my local dealer to get it sorted. I read that one of the users on the Eurovan forums is getting new runners fitted, but i can't see this resolving the problem if this is an inherent design fault.

Hi Stubie,

My car is going in next Tuesday/Wednesday to have a few things sorted on warranty [new cat, new roller blind, etc.] - I am hoping that the paint shop is going to look into the door runners as well.

As you said, could be an inherent fault; new runners will only potentially start flaking in a few months again.

I also intend to take some advice from the EV2 site as well, to hand to the dealer.

Btw, also get the use of a Fiat Idea for a day or two - should be fun ;)

I have just checked and the paint is starting to flake off my runners too. I have electric doors which are used frequently. I'm tempted to ask them to remove and strip them fully to stop any chance of sticking permanently.

I hope you get some joy at the dealers Stu.

Had my car in the other week at the dealers for its first service and mentioned this problem to them, The garage stated that it was not a design fault but was perfectly natural for the paint to flake off due to the doors being opened and closed.

My old model ulysse did not have this problem.

What the view or response from other dealers when this has been reported.

I want to take this further but may have to go direct to Fiat

I wonder if the is happenening with the other Ev2 models from citreon and Peugeot.

Hi

This is a common fault, as can be seen on the www.eurovan2.com website!

My dealer is still waiting for confirmation from FIAT UK to replace my door runners under warranty. I haven't pushed that much, tbh, but will mention it to them the next time it OR my Stilo has to go in for stuff.
