Hello all,

I am a car tuner and our ‘courtesy’ panda is really taking shape, handling is all sorted with Koni/H&R suspension, some poly bushes and 16” rims with Uniroyal Rainsports, I bought the hubs/brakes/discs/pads of the alfa mito/500’s to go for the bigger vented discs but stumbled across driveshaft issues as the diff is far too small for the vented cars driveshafts, custom shafts cost a small fortune so I put the conversion on hold....

However the gearbox just went clang and it’s died, so I’ll fit another box, I’ve read about the 6 speed boxes being gash for ratios and I’ve had turning circle issues with other makes and models, so I’m wondering what boxes will fit and what is needed for the swap?

It’s just a remapped 2004 1.1 just now but will be getting a fully forged rebuild and a supercharger so I need a strong box?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I was thinking about buying a wrecked 4x4 and doing the swap but right now I just need it back on the road preferably with the bigger brakes?

Thanks in advance!

Scott GTR.

Okay no one has an answer on this then? Does anyone know if I can swap out a diff from another box then?

Thanks,
Scott.

I was looking for another issue and found this one so sorry if its now too late to reply.

The Panda uses the same clutch across the range - diesels, 1.1, 1.2 and 100HP. The clutch struggles with remapped diesels but might cope with modified petrols as they tend to gain by revving higher.

6 speed box (as in 100HP) is ok but does limit steering lock. The only time it matters is Tescos parking, where you have to take two bites. The mod is simply a spacer collar on the inner track rod ends to limit the rack's travel. I suspect you could remove one of the spacers so it limits one side only but I've not tried it.

Anyone who really wants a faster Panda would be best using 1.4 performance stuff from 500 or Punto. Swap the whole lot and then sort out the cooling. I don't like the droop snoot used on fast 500s but there must be a way. Probably put rads behind the fog light openings.
