I have a punto 1.9 multijet with 105,000 miles on it, the other day the intercooler hose blew off and when I went to put it back on there was oil dripping out of it and the pipe was all gloopy,is this normal? Thanks

Don't worry, this is normal. The cause for this is most often oil vapor recirculating through the intake system via the breather pipe. Pressure builds up in the crankcase while the engine is running and it has to be released.

Due to emission laws and regulations this pressure is no longer allowed to be vented into the atmosphere because it is accompanied by oil and fuel vapor thus causing unnecessary pollution.

Unfortunately, the process of recirculating this vapor into the intake system can cause oil residue to build up on the hoses and in some cases, pooling of oil, especially in the intercooler. More so in your case, it's surprising how much can build up over 105,000 miles!

These engines would benefit so much from an oil catch can! It's on my 'to do' list.

Thanks a lot mate, yes that would be a good idea! I'm also having trouble fitting a dump valve, need to wire it to the throttle pedal sensor wire but I'm struggling to identify it, any help would be great, thanks

Dump valves aren't really necessary on these. They're fitted with variable vane turbos that should reduce any lag to the bare minimum by design. I have one on mine, makes only the smallest amount of difference and is barely noticable. Plus the sound gets annoying. Will be removing it eventually.
