Grande Punto 1.9 Sporting EGR Blanking

Grande Punto 1.9 Sporting EGR Blanking

Same answer - except that with every diesel I've had over the last few years I have blanked off the egr, one way or another. It was easier years ago, when you didn't have to involve the ecu.

Besides, I like the character of the little Panda diesel. Thankfully, mine doesn't have a dpf to clog either.

I removed both catalysts on my Alfa GT and replaced them by JTD Performance down pipe, and Ragazon stainless cat replacement...
Together with the closed EGR, no mot problems at all....and a very smooth running 1,9 jtd...
Be aware that some here think it's against the law or something...
It is. The fact that your car passed MOT doesn't make the dpf removal legal. Is robbing a bank without getting caught legal?

It might be a good idea to read this:
Diesel exhaust is a grade 1 carcinogen. It's the microscopic pariculates which pose the greatest health risk - and these aren't detected by current MOT methods. DPF's remove the majority of these particulates.

IMO exposing innocent folks to the risk of a slow and painful death in order to save a few pennies is unacceptable in a civilised society.

What about the new coal powered energy plant currently build in the Eemshaven...
It will blow more toxic gasses in the air in one minute, than my car does during it's life cycle without catalists..
Come on, give me a break...and go preach somewhere else, or buy a Prius.. ;)

Well Peter, CO2 isn't the problem. It might give some global warming and that would lead to a higher sea level, but is that a problem? No way! Our country proves that it isn't a problem at all to live up to 7 m below sea level. Just build some dykes and the problem is solved. No Peter, it's the carcinogenic (=kankerverwekkend) smoke of your car that is a problem!

Whatever...

I'm convinced that by using top quality synthetic engine oil, together with premium diesel fuell and by warming up the engine well, I drive a lot cleaner with my decatted and closed EGR system Alfa GT jtd than many other cars with clogged up catalysts, and malfunctioning EGR systems...
And don't forget a lot of carcinogenic material comes from brake dust and tyre wear...
Again, I drive only long distances, so don't brake a lot, and use "green" Pirelli tyres...
So I press the accelerator deep with peace of mind all the time...!!

You are probably right, but it's way too easy to take broken cars or poorly maintained cars as a reference. Is your car broken of poorly maintained? I guess not.

I don't get it. Why remove the DPF if you already closed the EGR system? Without EGR the DPF won't clog and it will hardly need active regenerations, unless you have ridiculous driving habits, but it will catch more than 99 % of the particles. The highly regarded Dutch tuners Savali and Squadra discourage DPF removal for a valid reason!

Tunex is cheap, but these guys are not the smartest. They advertise with bull**** like:
zorgt ook voor een betere verbranding dankzij 100% zuurstof
(English: also improves combustion thanks to 100% oxygen)
Only fools believe such nonsense! What happened with the nitrogen?

But Peter, you are absolutely right when it comes to the coal fired power plant at Eemshaven. Indeed that is a bloody disgrace!

What they're actualy saying is that the engine is no longer fed with exhaust gas....which is a very good and healthy for any engine..

My EGR was closed by Tunex, without tuning or whatever ( my car is powerful enough) Squadra only wanted to close the EGR together with ( expensive) tuning....(n)

For the Dutch forum members the following letter from staatssecretaris (Secretary of State) Mansveld to the Tweede Kamer (the Dutch House of Commons) might be interesting, since it contains a section about DPF removal: https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/binari.../2015/07/06/luchtkwaliteit/luchtkwaliteit.pdf

Mansveld writes:
Ik zal TNO opdracht gegeven om samen met de RDW te bezien hoe de APK zodanig kan worden gepast dat voertuigen waarvan het roetfilter is verwijderd de keuring niet langer kunnen doorstaan.

In plain English this means that she wants TNO and RDW to investigate how MOT can be changed that cars of which the DPF has been removed no longer pass.
