Hi all,

new to the forums recently and was wondering if there was a good quality tuning box for the 1.4 8v? If not then approx how much would a remap cost?
Also ive heard about some cars having anti tune protection on the ecu, can remap companies bypass that?
in addition to that, im going to get a powerflow cat-back exhaust system, anything wrong with doing that? i only ask because ive heard you need to maintain some backpressure in the non-turbo engines?
sorry in advance for the amount of questions im just eager to get tuning (y)

sorry to burst your bubble but as a fellow owner of a 1.4 8v theres nothing you can do tuning wise without spending mega moneys. theres no point in a remap, will get you 10hp at most, best upgrade you could do (please someone correct me if im wrong) is a decent panel filter (or cone for the noise) and maybe a full exhaust system. other than that, suspension and handling changes, or save your money for a 1.4 16v or a tjet further down the line, also maintain your car/engine, clean throttle body, airbox, keep on top of services, if you can lighten your car too.

you could (money and insurance permitting) do an engine swap but good luck trying to find a decent low milage tjet engine.

also before you ask, you cant just swap over the 16v heads too apparently, the pistons are different.

** reading back that sounded a tad harsh... didnt mean to**

Okay thanks for letting me know, and well I know to get the most out of the new exhaust and filter, a remap would let the ecu make the most of the upgrades, are there any good remap companies in the west mids? And I already new about the differences between the 8 and 16v but thanks for the help anyway :) and well the plan is to get an abarth next :D

abarth... good plan mate! im after a derv if im honest! i only put what i put cause i asked all the same questions haha tbh a remap would in theory but i doubt youd be happy with the gains for the money... i could be completly wrong as i havnt got a decent exhaust system on mine and i havnt had it mapped im just going on what i think is the general thinking on here thats all :)

Thanks :) good plan yourself too :) and well if im honest im gonna have this one at least 2-3 years so its worth a go at least :)

I have a 1.2 8v ;)
Best advice would be a gsr induction kit (gives noticeable gains from what I've heard, I'm saving up every penny for one atm, my k&n keeps falling off.)
And a cat back exhaust like you said.
After that I would go for the remap, even if 10-15bhp is all you get you will notice it, heck you'd notice even 6bhp. IF you have the money and you plan on keeping the car for a while I dont see why not :)

After that theres not really much more you can do preformance while that's worthwhile, I'd then focus on handeling and cosmetic aspect of the car ;)
