I purchased some Remapping Software and Hardware on behalf of a friend. This evening I managed to remap his car. He was so pleased with the result he gave me the Remapping Software and Hardware. After reading through it for an hour I've descovered its able to read and write to my cars ECU.

Has anyone else remapped their own car?

Does anyone have a tuning file I could try on my car?

Im interested as they say it does the Astra 1.8 16v Simtec70...

but im concerned about the legitimacy of it and if it does any damage or not.

be interesting to see MPG results & BHP RR tests...

I'm only going to try it on the punto as ecus are fairly cheap, I've read loadsa stories about fried ecus after people using these kits, after I bought one though lol.

I doubt they're going to rr test each car to sell a lead for & software for 20 odd quid, they're generic maps so will be the same as most companies use.

I meant results from people who've done it compared to standard.

problem with many remaps are they make the engine think its cold, so put more petrol in through the system.

Im a little suspicious because of the price and the fact you can do it yourself, something doesn't seem right in my opinion

grr it only works on xp i havent had an xp laptop for many years!

If your running Vista or W7, you can still use it, once installed on the PC you can tell Windows to run it using backwards compatibility to XP

it's those resistors and cheap tuning boxes that make your engine think it's cold.

i've had a play with it on my dads cdti mg zt, got it connected fine, saved the standard map etc.

tried a map from one of the DVD's, car wouldn't start, got the standard map back on fine.

the problem starts with the maps they give you with it, they've got daft filenames and in no order so you don't know what's what.

i'd only suggest going for it if you have a good map.

anyone have one for the 8v punto? everyone else seems to think it can be done via the OBD

celtic want £150 to send the standard map to them, and to send a remapped one back for me to myself, basically the same cost with 10x more risk, better off just getting a proper remap then you have come back if anything goes wrong.

exactly, cant trust it.

i'd rather take it to a Reddot day and get it properly remapped with RR

how've you worked that out?

the software & hardware done their job fine, they removed the standard map, saved it and put the new map on no problem.

like i said if you had a map you'll be fine, it's the maps the bloke on ebay has supplied that are the problem.

all they're doing for a standard remap anywhere is loading a generic map on the ECU instead of the standard one, the same as what i'll do with the lead and software when i get hold of one for my dads car, not paying £150 for one off celtic though thats for sure.
