Now having got lubrication to the cam (and thanks Andy I looked a bit harder and found the missing solenoid contact) the new head is finished. The car drives I've just been 3 miles in it, all the VITAL signs are ok, ahem, except for the above. Now could this be the timing??? The fuel pump sprocket would not line up exactly with the timing mark when at rest. So I pulled it back it a tooth so it did. Is the timing that sensitive, or is there anything else to check?

Cheers

The pump MUST be timed accurately, or like Daz says, will run like bag of spanners.

Andy.

Cheers for your advice.

Also it struggled to start after being run for a long while - but was fine starting earlier a no. of times - so I think the belt maybe jumped a tooth.

The problem is that the mark on the fuel pump sprocket at 'rest' - is about two teeth ahead of the timing mark on the cover. I am wondering where its supposed to be - assuming all other sprockets in position - at the rest position or retarded against the force of the pump to the timing mark?

Cheers

Girlfriend's Fiesta 1.3 is like sitting in a soggy bucket, 0-60 in 2 minutes but nothing EVER goes wrong. Same age but rust free floorpan !!!

my friend's 1994 fiesta is on it's second engine for some reason he didn't scrap it and spent £600+ on the new engine. and he had to have welding for the MoT! mine flew threw and it's 2 years older (apart from a flexible brake hoses needed replacing as leaking). you are right about the o-60 time though! even on this new engine it's slower than mine. and mines got a dodgy carb.

TD - Lack of power, v noisy, little turbo - GUESS WOT!

Your all right - one tooth made all the difference. Drives like an absolute dream -but GUESS WOT  - the cam bearing is not getting lubrication again !!! Assuming that is the wailing noise but I can't see what else it could possibly be. But there was plenty of oil coming into the bearing with the cam out and it ran fine yesterday !!!!
