Making a Sport filter fit.

I still have an original filter on my Tipo 1.4.
I want to get a better sound, so a friend has for me a K&N filter from his old car.
I have removed the old air filter, but there is one cable left from the air filter.

See the picture that I have marked.

Where is this cable from and have I need it?
It's look thats goes to the engine.

I also must make a place to fit the sport filter.

I can’t do it like this, because the enginecap can’t be closed.

This is my first time so I need a little bit help.

If you want to see some more pictures just download the rar file.

Thanks a lot(y)

thats totally the wrong type for your engine/positioning
have a look at some induction set ups in the cento section/gallery for ideas on how to convert that filter to fit

could you tell me why?

So I learn a bit to.!

Custard could you please give me a link? that's for me a little easyer.:)

Is that "cable" that goes to the block the crankcase breather? That would be my guess. You'll probably need to fit an oil catcher tank if you can't connect to your new filter housing.

Maybe this is a better picture?

Sorry my englisch is not verry well ,but I try it.

On the new Air Filter cannot put "the cable" that i have marked on my first post.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Bertran,

You need something 'like' this..

I would aim to have the air filter where your current air filter is, and use flexible hose to join between the air filter and the throttle body.

The pipe you have highlighted is most likely the crank case breather, and should be connected into the pipe between the throttle body and the air filter. Have a look in scrap yards for a diesel tipo if you can find one - they have some useful wide pipes with some of the joins you will need.

I know what i would do. Open up the original filter housing by cutting it and drilling holes and fit a K/N panel filter. Job done. And the breather hose is still attached!! (y)

Andy :)

that brether should be conected under your airbox. i think cutting the airbox is the best way.

So if i understand is the best way to make a custom fit filter.
Buy a filter (original) on the cardump (i don't know the exacly word for it) and the K&N filter that i already have. Do I also get a better sound?
I think that the k&n will not fit on the place of the place from the original just make/buy a pipe.

So I must make something that's likes on the picture down here.

Or I can buy maybe it on a cardump to? (Number 1,2)

And the "cable" goes where I have marked blue?

"Tipo-man"

"also, looks like you have a big rocker cover gasket leak"

I shall take a look. The place where it is whet on the picture.

I don't know exacly what you mean :(

the OIL man :bang:

Hello Bertran,
i have an idea but i`m not sure it`ll work
try to get the air box from a carb version
as shown on attached picture, if the cap fits your s.p.i then you`re good to go, just attach the k&n filter to the end of the hose

i have the same air box as yours but my car is 1.6 i.e , i want to fit a sport filter too but i still can`t find this cab for a reasonable price, this is the only solution that i came up with, hope this works with you
please let me know wht are you gonna do,

good luck man

hi Galilio_Mad,

that's a good idea , I thougt on it to .
I must be work ,the system is the same as the orginal.
Where could you buy it? and what must you pay for it?

So i must search for a car tipo/tempra (some speciale edition?) on a cardump.

Or is that searching for a needle in a haystack (a dutch's expression)

Thanks for your help.

This Tipo have a carb. (If you call that so)

No, your car has Bosch Mono Injection.

Andy.

Hi Andy,

So Galilio_Mad idea wil not work?
It's that what you mean with "No"?

No, iam saying your car is injected, and the easiest and best way to sort your problem is to cut and drill your original panel housing and fit a K/N panel filter. Job done.
The picture showing the engine with a cone filter attached i dont like as it has acute angles which air does not like. Air likes a straight as possible tract.
If you decide on a remote filter and you use a cone filter, dont forget to fit a cold feed pipe from front of car, so at least cool air gets to the engine. If you leave it without, the heat under the bonnet will create warm air which is not dense and so loses potential power.

Andy.:)

hello everyone
so sorry it took so long to reply

i never said that`s gonna work
my exact words were " i have an idea but i`m not sure it`ll work "
it`s only a theory in my head and i was trying to get the carb cab from a friend or something to try it on the s.p.i that i have

i guess the best way for you is to get the whole kit from the filter manufacturer or do some work with your standard airbox as andy mentioned before

so sorry for the confusion i caused
happy new year to all of you :)

Yes I know, maybe i said it wrong.
to bad that it not will work ,but shall the sound goes beter if I make a "sportfilter" of my standard airbox?

Happy new year to.

HEY bertran
from what i got off the web there`s a K&N panel filter which is a straight swap for the standard one inside the airbox but i don`t know how is sounds coz we don`t have that type in local markets here
there`s another thing i was thinking about try removing the filter from the air box and put it back together in place then try to attach the sport filter to the cold air hose which , maybe it will work
again i say it`s only an idea and i`m not sure it`s even gonna work

best regards
