Hello, this is my first post as a proud owner of a 1989 Fiat tipo.

A few month ago I experienced some problems with the "Door Open" Lights on the Tipo digital dashboard. The problem is quite simple:

When it rains, two of the "door open" indicators on the dashboard simply doesn't switch off when the I close the doors (left side, both driver and passenger doors). This stops the central lock from working properly. When I want to lock the doors i have to force push the lock button on the passenger door for the others to close properly and then close the driver's door with the key.

Two days ago it happened again.

I really want to solve the damn thing but i don't know where is the door sensor (not the door light switch) that activates the light on the dashboard and where is the central locking comand unit to see if there is something wet due to bad isolation.

Could you please give me a hint/solution to my problem?

Thank You very much!

the pickups are on the door latch your better to take the door panel off to get to it i have seen the connectins corroded before and thus caused the problem .sometimes a good clean with electrical cleaner is all thats needed(y) hope this helps.

He's right, I tested it today and if you put your finger in the latch to push it shut the lights on the dash go out. (see fig below)

What this means is that water might be leaking into your doors from the window seal.

There is a loom of wires that plugs into the central locking motor, you may need to seal this up with some insulating tape AND fix the seal at the bottom of the window.

You will have to take off the door panel, a Phillips screw driver to do the unscrewing and a flat head or skinny alternative to seperate the panel from the door AND a spanner to take off the bolts in the pic and you're away (y)

Indeed, the "door closed" micro switch is instaled inside the door locking mechanism. I checked it when i cannibalized one of my locking mechanisms that died a long time ago. One thing that you should be carrefull is that if you need to remove that mechanism you have to unscrew 2? screws at the side of the door AND remove one plastic clip-like thing that in my case broke or can not be removed without braking. That is accessible after you remove the door trim and the plastic that covers the internal metal plate of the door.

hey,

On my Fiat i do not have any problems with the door open lights. However, sometimes when i try to lock it, it will lock then unlock. i have no idea why it does this but it is really frustrating cause i have to go to the passenger door and lock it then unlock it then go back to the drivers side to try it again. i pretty much have to do this process over and over again untill it locks. i feel ur pain bro!!!
