Hi all, can anyone tell me the order that the plug wires go into the distributor on my 1995 1.4ie Tipo? Got in a right mess as I was sent what were supposed to be the right leads but were in fact for the earlier type. There are 4 sockets on the distributor.
I need to source a correct set of leads for this car, anyone help?

It seems you have the same problem I had with my late model Tipo... Fiat changed the engine management and distributor / coil arrangement from the earlier type. Originally it had a conventional coil / distributor arrangement and there were 5 leads with the older type of connector (bent copper loop). The 5th lead goes from the distributor to the coil, the later type has no conventional coil and the leads have different connectors more like a "teat". There is a black coilpack instead that is fired by a low voltage line direct from the ECU, this is the same unit for other Fiats including the 1.2 16V Bravas, Puntos etc. These have 2 circuits conencted between plug pairs, so (I think) 1 and 4 fire together and also 2 and 3, so it doesn't matter if you cross these over when fitting leads between coil and plugs.

If you try and buy leads all modern lazy suppliers just say "give me your reg no." and promptly send you the wrong, older plug lead set over and over again. You need to find leads for the Punto Mk1 1.4 Turbo or 1.6 injection - basically the same engine as the Tipo. It is possible that leads for the later 1.6 Tipo will fit the later 1.4s.. I think Fiat made them more common towards the end.

Many thanks Bluejohn for taking the time to give so much help. After putting my glasses on  I could just make out the tiny numbers stamped on the distributor.
I managed with the set except for number 3 where I had to use the old one. The contacts were blue but I scraped them off as well as I could.
Having had a new battery recently I read in my handbook there is a simple procedure to reset the injectors, this made the idle a lot better and the engine is a bit healthier.
I still think I have to bite the bullet though and get a new set as you say the connectors to the coil pack are not correct, the ones I fitted do work but I did notice they did not seem to go as far into the coil pack as the old ones.
