The heater is clearly knackered - the dial only turns one notch and won't go further, so the heat for the windscreen and cabin is basically non existent. Trouble is, I don't fancy pulling the unit apart to find out what's going on. Advice needed!
Pull it apart carefully.
There's nothing mysterious about the heating system, it's quite straightforward.
Just make the decision to get stuck in and find the problem.
Make notes or take pics as you go.

Good idea to take the glovebox off anyway. That way you can get good access to all the bits attached to the heater controls and see what's going on. Did mine at the weekend and found nothing wrong but a good clean and lube of the cables and levers has made everything work much smoother.

Brilliant advice both, thanks!

This will be the next mission, hopefully it will be something obvious. :)

...I'm also looking to spruce up the exterior bits - does anyone know a decent supplier for Tipo badges? Mine are faded to beige... I'm after proper blue ones or a potential way of restoring these!

Ta, as always!

partsworld uk have a selection of tipo badges listed on eBay [emoji1303]

I did have a go at trying to restore one of mine. Blue paint not too difficult to match but didn't look good with the chrome worn off the lettering and no real answer to this. Eventually found all badges for my 1.4 i.e.S model on eBay and replacing them is straightforward (I used a gentle application with a heat gun to soften the original glue)Some badges are interchangeable with other Fiats but you might struggle to find the DGT side flashes which I think are unique to early model Tipos. Good luck!

Thanks both - think I might have found the DGT badges from an Italian eBay seller - typing 'Tipo DGT scritta' seemed to do the trick! I did consider paint, and still might give it a go, but realistically I think import is the way to go - for the DGT badges at least and the early Tipo boot badge. Others look possible through Partsworld. Ta!

So, my Tipo's been parked up for a while due to a perfect storm of issues, from thermostat (stuck open) to handbrake (crappy plastic adjustor snapped off). Glad to say he's back up and running at last, although the issues aren't over.

So now the driver's side electric window has died on me. Just wondering if anyone out there has worked on/overcame 1980s electric windows and, if so, what's the first step?

I haven't done an electric window motor, have had to change a couple of central locking units in the doors of my Brava. The passenger electric window in my Tipo is quite slow, I suspect the rails need cleaning and spraying. I did change a manual window winder (called a regulator) in the rear passenger door too. Similar cars to the Tipo but probably different components.

A few of the Wheeler Dealers programs have fixed electric window issues.. they sometimes change the switch or find broken wires going into the door, you'd have to diagnose these with a meter and some test wires. If those are OK then it could be the motor / regulator.. good luck finding one!

Thanks bluejohn125 - I'm pretty sure it's not the fuse or the switch, which operates the passenger window fine but not the driver's side.

So, gonna check the wiring and hope it's that! Even though the motor is probably not Tipo specific it's going to need a whole lot of luck to find a replacement. Dammit.

Drove the Tipo today for the first time in a few weeks. Still a totally and utterly brilliant car!
