Damn, that Tipo looks sexy in white! :)

Mine will stay as original as possible - I like badges and stuff. But yours looks amazing SFB!

I'll be sure to mention this to my mechanic Charlie. Not on a Tipo, but the Uno back box took 2 hefty blokes, cutting equipment, blowtorches & a lot of swearing to remove. They actually said I'd have never removed it laying on the drive - so I'm glad I didn't try. :D

Good luck with the Tipo exhaust, there should still be plenty around on EBay.

trying to find the pics I took to make a guide . last rear box I changed.. on the panda

my method it to use an angle grinder and a 1mm thick cutting disc ( @£1)
to extend the clamping slots in the mating part that slips over the other piece.., a few light passes will soon slice through the @1mm thick tube wall. and in the process introduce a little heat to help get things moving,
then I use a screwdriver or 2 to prise the joint apart..including the new slits I've just created

you can normally use the "crank" in the exhaust to twist the parts ok;)

obviously if you are replacing everthing after the downpipe..you can use the cutting wheel to slice out easy sections..

the sump area joint may well be on a "cup and flange" arrangement

with 2 x bolts pulling it all together:) simples

Wow, thanks for that! (y)

My plan currently (because I don't have a pit, a ramp, an angle grinder or, frankly, any ability) is to buy the whole exhaust unit and take it to a mechanic to fit… whilst watching the process (hopefully) for next time around.

Oh, and buy some more tools.

Thanks varesecrazy

Full exhaust system now ordered - should arrive tomorrow if Parcel Force know what's good for them. Meantime, Salvo is booked in for some mechanic time on Friday so hopefully he'll ride again soon - yay :)

Plus, I'll get the underside thoroughly checked up while I'm there. All in all, pretty excited today...

If the underseal is original then you will probably find that it is failing underneath and will trap moisture and rust around the sill seams etc. At some stage it all needs removing with ideally a small angle grinder and wire brush attachment, plus sharp decorators scrapers.... Very awkward and messy, but rewarding.

Exhaust's ready to be fitted...maybe it's me, but it looks massive. Lots of cool shiny bits in the box...£110 all in, so happy enough.

Salvo lives!!!!

Well she's back up and running, and sounding great.

Ken, the mechanic who's also selling a sweet Uno on here, did a great job and I got the chance to investigate Salvo's bottom. Fnarff!

You guys were right, the sill seams do need a bit of attention, but nothing that some effort won't fix.

Thanks, all. :)

Gotta say.... That is beautiful.
I was looking for an early tipo when I bought my mk1 punto,
Was close to buying an blue H Reg 1.6 dgt sx, but when the punto come up I couldn't say no because of the condition/ history.

Well done for finding a really early one in a rare colour. Please keep it how fiat intended

Thanks so much. I'm chuffed now!

Yes, it's staying original. I'll replace outdated parts, fix him up, polish and drive...for as long as I possibly can!

So great to see such nice comments about my Tipo. Can't wait to put some miles in now :)

Exactly my plans with the punto, make it mint.
If u need any part numbers etc give me a shout as I work for fiat.

Hello Simon ..do you know if you can get your hands on a front electric window relay .. my garage says they don't make them anymore ..its for a J reg tipo 20 16v sedi ..

...and the exhaust's worked loose already. Not happy. I'll be going back to get it fixed early next week, but Salvo's out of commission (again). Grrrrr :(

The original one fell off, so I ordered a new one and got it fitted...which proved to be a saga in itself because the rear/mid section wouldn't slide onto the silencer pipe properly. I suspect this is what's working loose but I can't get under to check...

I hope you've got the right parts... a few years ago I picked up a rear exhaust section on Ebay.. it was for a Tipo 1.4 but I think I took a chance on a Tempra one. It wouldn't fit because it was for an estate, and when my mechanic tried it on his 1.9 TD Tempra estate it wouldn't fit that either because the pipe diameters were 1 or 2 mm different compared to the 1.7 D ! and smaller petrols!

I remeber years ago I had a Pug 306 Cabriolet and the rear exhaust knackered up.
The replacement part was a stupid amount so I got a big bore boy racer type off ebay, the garage that do my repairs put it on with some sort of flexi-pipe.
It worked a treat and sounded quite nice, just looked bloody horrible.
