Hi there, thanks for reading.
I'm new to this forum and straight away I'm asking for help!:I

I've got a 1993/4 'L' Fiat Tipo 1.7D (last of the Mk1's), it's a great little workhorse, dead reliable (touch wood!) and has given me 10 months of trouble free motoring.

Unfortunately, now that winter is almost here, it's developed a couple of electrical gremlins:

1. The blower motor has stopped working (fun on these frosty mornings!), it was an intermittant fault at first but now it's gone for good. The motor works if you put a direct feed to it, the resistor pack looks/buzzes out okay, and the switch seems to 'switch' okay. Is there a relay involved in the circuit? (Haynes shows one for the petrol models, but has no info on the diesels!)

2. The rear wiper doesn't work. I can't say if it ever worked as I've never had call to use it, could this be linked to the heater problem as the petrol models use the same relay for both? (Again, according to Haynes)

3. Does anyone know what the middle relay position is for on the secondary relay panel? (inside the dash, above the glovebox) I was wondering if this might be the cause of problem 2 as there's wires/pins connected but no relay. I can't be related to 1 as the blower worked properly until about a month ago, and I've not removed the relay.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice, Danny

Update:
1. Traced it to a dodgy connection inside the fusebox, not fixed it properly yet but a sharp tap on/squeeze of the fusebox sets it going again.

2. Found chafed wires where they go from the hatch to the body of the car and guessed I'd found the cause of this [Also, realised the rear demister wasn't working. Doh!] repaired this and got the demister back but still no rear wiper! Going to try again soon, but I've taken to ignoring it - don't need it really.

Got some new ones as well!

3. Annoying ticking noise from the indicators when they're not in use. Tried a new relay but no change. Then stripped out the switch and found it'd melted! Just got to track down a Tipo in the scrappy now.

4. Front wipers stopped working on the M6 Toll in heavy rain! Was right by the services so pulled off quick and called out the RAC. After much checking and testing it was traced to a dry joint on the PCB an the back of the wiper motor. Might check the rear motor for something similar.

Thanks for the advice, finally checked the motor and it's seized!
Just need to find a Tipo in the local scappies then I can sort out both problem (2) and problem (3).

Hi Danny. I have all of the parts you need and more, contact me if you still need them.
Jim

Thanks Jim, I'll bear that in mind. I've agreed to pick up some bits from a guy in Manchester, but if that falls through I'll get in touch

I've replaced the fuse box with a brand new, genuine Fiat-Lancia part now and the blower is working like a dream, the electrics seem to be generally better; the clicking is less frequent and the dash lights seem brighter.
