Please can some one help me out.
Im trying to get car done and need a couple of bits quick.
I need two (one for each side) rubber bits.
They are on the lower swing arm/wishbone thingy. Not the ones that join the sub frame where it pivots but the end that joins the hub (or shocker, or were ever it joins, cant remember now and its not at my house so i cant go and check).
They look like they are there to keep the grease on the little ball joints contained inside. (like a minature versoin of a gator/cv boot.

What i need is a part name (number if possible too) as i have a day off on wednesday and if i can find out i can order them tomorrow. (y)

Then its only the brake pipes and its done. (incedentally, how much would it cost to have a garage replace the front tot back pipes instead of me doing it??)

Please please help as im running out of time, i have a couple of weeks off coming up and want to do a bit of traveling as ive been car-les for nearly 2 years now

Ta mucho

P.S. Its a Tipo 1.9TD. L reg.

right lets be clear here those joints are part of the wish bone period - they ARE NOT replaceble. You will have to replace the whole wish bone arm.

The rear pipes - which bit needs changing they are in 3 parts, cylinder to joining block, then under the car to the bias valve then bias valve to each caliper, but then there is a hose some more hard pipe then another hose.

Thanks for your post.
Lets see if we can clear this up a bit.

Right,
its not actually the joint, just the rubber cover on it which is held on by two pieces of metal (like tight rings) so i think it is replaceable. If not then it only has a little nick in it so i might use a puncture repair kit on it to cover it up and hope it passes its test, it was not picked up on the first time round but i noticed it when changing the front subframe.

The section of pipe is the center section. The block to the brake bias valve.

Also would it fail if the RAER windscreen wiper does not work. Not had a look as to why yet so it may be as simple as a fuse but i want the big things sorting first.

Ta Mucho

well i had mine moted 1 mth ago and it dint fail on rear wiper..but thats upto the garage tbh

Like the man said, if its the ball joint cover you need the whole wishbone which will set you back a minimum of £40 each but an average of £80 each (New component prices) Beware that Fiat do two sizes for teh Tipo, one of them has bigger things on it and wont fit smaller engine models and vice versa.

Furthermore you shouldnt fail an MOT because of no rear wiper spray as not all cars have rear wipers. but if you are worried, check the pipe in the boot lid:

Open the Boot
Look towards the left at the part of the boot thats closest to the car
underneath a rubber cover will be the pipe that carries water, check to see if its intact
check under the bonnet near the water resoviour for the other pipes to see if they are connected.

Cheers all, think its a superglue then smear with claggy engine oil job to hide it. Its only a small nick anyway, dont even thinkits gone all the way through the rubber.

Will go and (hopefully) finish the suspension now and then have a look at those brake pipes. (as long as the brother has given me my battery back so i can move it.)

Ta mucho, time to get down and dirty (with oil) :D

Which MOT station are you planning to have it checked? You can get a full arm (with new joints) for around £28 from www.shop4parts.co.uk

Notice you're from the pool. What colour's your teapot?

P.S. The L reg uses a 17mm Hub carrier pin rather than the 15mm used in the years previous.

Well its going in to the one it originally failed in (hoping they will only check what it failed on :D )

yeah im in pool, where you from Hellcat.
Its a redish colour, needs badly t-cutting though.

Just finished putting the suspension back together (well almost, only the ball joint on the wishone to 'locate' correctly as it wont go all the way in, where did that hammer go??)

Back end up on ramps now so ready to start the break pipes. Cant believe how easy it went up (massive ramps), loads of torque.
(back brakes had siezed but it pulled along still till they broke loose. Sorry its the first diesel ive had and am surprised.)

What sort of radio do they have as standard? This has some grundig thing but since my brother pinched the battery its asking for a code which i dont have :bang: Anyone know an easy way to get it sorted with having to pay someone. :p

I'm from Hartlepool too.. I've got the Black 1.9TD (There were 2 of them but I know the other is now off the road - RIP). Mine had a Kenwood radio which I replaced with a Kenwood MP3 player. Guess you could have it for a fiver, or a pint, or a look round your car, or simply for the effort of taking it away!

As for the ramps - The big problems with Tipo's and ramps is the very low front skirt, anything over a shallow angle and its grinding time. Use two 3 foot lengths of scafolding board to avoid that problem. Just be careful not to zoom off the end. All that power and torque has seen a few boy racers red faced as they head out towards Elwick.

Next big job for mine is a change of arms, shocks and springs as it handles like a cream cake at the moment.

From hartlepool? Whereabouts in hartlepool, im over the west view area, unfortunatly ;)
Ive only seen one black tipo in town and i believe the owner worked for the chinese takeawy in king oswy drive. Is that you?

When i say ramps it was a little white lie :p . I actually use a towing dolly with the connecting end chained to a metal fence (it tends to tip up with there being no weight on that end, and with alarming speed, once knocked me off my feet when i was trying to hold it down whilst someone was driving up it.) so its quite a bit higher than normal ramps with a not too bad an ascent angle, although i do have a set of ramps about twice as high as normal ones and ten times heavier.
I also took it up backwords so as not to ground out. (y)

So what should the oil presure guage read and when should the turbo start to kick in. Ive only drove it a few feet as i got it in pieces, will have it finished in two weeks.

P.s. May be interested in that radio of yours :D

Nope, that one isn't me. I'm from the Headland. Squeeky and clunky. Needs altenator belt adjusting and suspension towers replacing.

The oil pressure should be around the centre mark (3bar i think). Turbo should kick in around 2k RPM. Does yours have a boost gague? If so it should build upto just before the red zone (around 4/5ths bar). Not sure if my engine temp reads correct - the wire has been broken so i'm not sure if its a clean connection.

Not sure if you have had a Tipo before but one of the main problems with the suspension (apart from your rubber thingys) is the rear arm bearings. Nobody will admit to them being replaceable and will try to take one of your arms and possibly a leg too for a whole new arm. The bearings are the same as on the Bravo/Brava and cost about £30. Very worthwhile replacing if your arm has any movement and you have the rear brake pipes off.

As for the radio. It's yours. I'll take a couple of pics so you can work out what (if any) wiring caddy's you need.

Ill bare that in mind, might do the rear bearings whilst im at it.

These brake pipes are causing me to have nightmares, see https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?p=420372#post420372

Yes mine does have a boost gauge. The oil pressure seems about right but cant tell with the turbo yet as i have the exhaust off. Had to take it off to do the front subframe.

Headland eh, i was over there this afternoon walking my dogs! :D
