Hi all!!

I'm after a little advice as I've bought some Fox Racing Multi-spoke 17 inch alloys and tyres off a friend at a price far too good to refuse.

I was going to stick with the 14 inch steel wheels and trims, but as my Tipo needs two tyres on the front anyway I figured I'd treat it as it's Christmas!!

And should I change the car for another Fiat or an Alfa, then I can keep the wheels for that :)

The wheels currently have some 205/40ZR 17 84W tyres fitted, so I wondered before I spend my Christmas week refurbishing them....

Would anyone know if that size will fit the car ok, as I don't want them to rub or catch. Particularly when the car has a full set of passengers! the car is a 1994 1.4 5 door not lowered.

Any advice on suitable size's or if anyone has a Tipo with 17's fitted and can let me know I'd really appreciate it.

Hi Paul, have you thought about starting the easy way, with a measuring stick?

I wouldn't dare to hazard a guess, here in Spain, we're restricted to certain wheel and tyre sizes.

The rear wheel arches do appear to have a lot of spare room for oversize rubber, but the fronts ....

Personally, I'd swap them all and do a fully loaded test run.

Best of luck.

Hi Paul, did you do anything about the new wheels?

Personally I would definitely stick with 14" or 15" Fiat genuine wheels, although obviously many Alfa wheels wil fit OK.

You should have loads of choice from Tempra, Brava / Bravo, Marea, Punto etc.

Remember that although the original tyre size was an unusually small 165/65 x 14 these are sensibly replaced by the 175/65 x 14 off the Bravas/Bravos, which is the equivalent diameter to 185/60 x 14 or 185/55 x 15 or as a maximum, 195/50 x 15.

If you're going to 16" then you will need low profile 195s but I don't think they will particularly suit or improve the car.

As regards your original wheels, if you give them a good de-rust you can fit 185/60 x 14s fine, and maybe find some smarter (Punto?) Fiat wheel trims.

Hi,

the wheels on mine are two original Tipo steel rims, and two rims off a mk2 Punto oddly?

So I was originally going to get two more Tipo steels, and as you said some newer style Fiat trims off a Punto etc.. But gave up trying to get the right steels as I couldn't get any :( I wasn't really after alloys but then my Friend offered me the Fox alloys.

But they needed tyres and a refurbishment, so sold them on as I'd seen some 5x "16" inch Alfa 155 Speedline alloys near to my work.

Bought those admittedly on impulse, while there nice they need tyres and refurbishment etc..

Being realistic I'm not going to get these sorted, so selling them and now I've now bought some "15" fiat tipo sedicivalvole alloys!!

With Yokohama Avs 195/15/15 tyres, picking them up today so finally sorted with some wheels at long last :) Will be getting the tracking done a.s.a.p.

Good to see you found the right wheels for the car, I bet they will look and drive great. There are some other Sedi wheels for sale in the classifieds but you've done well to find some with good tyres too.

I expect you've got a pair of Punto steelies because the original Tipo wheels developed rusty / leaky wheel syndrome and had to be replaced.

Send photos and a report when the wheel work is done!

Thanks I've been pretty pleased with how it's turned out!!I had to get them balanced and the tracking done but well worth it.

Well, here's the Tipo before and after!!

Well TBH they don't look terribly different, maybe greyer and shinier!

They are ideal for the car, set it off really nicelyu and when balanced and tracked you should have a fine handling machine.

Silver Tipo with the nice blue check interior and Sedi alloys! Lovely...

You need to uprate the crappy old speakers if you haven't done it yet, then you're sorted.

I was looking at some speakers for it, as I'd put some new ones in my Uno last year and was amazed at how much difference it makes!!

Not that I blast out loud music, but maybe something I'll change at some stage as the speakers are a little tinny!

The wheels aren't too dramatic, but thought that the grey complimented the silver a little better than if they were just silver!!

New tyres have made a big difference, with the tyres being lower profile the ride is a touch more firmer although the sharpness of the steering is better but I wasn't disappointed with it before to be honest.

Seats have split at the stitching on the front, so need to try and sort that but I've put some heavy duty covers on for now.
Plus I need to find a new headlining, mines got a lot of rips and tears in it due to it's previous life as a van!!

It's getting there slowly, it'll never be a show queen but it looks a lot more respectable :)

I found the ride the ride a little too harsh with the lower profile tyres, however before I had any chance to look at that me and the Tipo was involved in a car accident.

Which was caused by someone else, who decided to make off!!

Anyway the short version is, in trying to avoid the other vehicle I collided with a sign and the car is now a total write off :(

Thankfully I'm ok and I could walk away, a testament to the strength of the car.

But sadly my Tipo is no more, so on top of that I have a large bill from the recovery company to pay.

Plus whatever claim on my insurance I may get from the council/ highways for the sign.

Just extremely angry that someone can cause a road accident, then make off without a thought or care to what harm they could of caused.

But what's done is done no point wasting time being angry, so to try and recoup some money I've sold the remains of the car onto another person who will salvage what they can for their Tipo.

For now I'll concentrate on getting my Uno's bodywork restored, and the Mk1 Punto I've acquired earlier this year.

But I'm looking at possibly saving up for a Tipo Sedicivalvole instead, as there's one not too far away that's been sitting a forecourt for a good while.
Could be mine if I can get some cash saved up!! we'll see ;)
