Help- my Tipo 1.4 ies 1994 stalls at junctions intermittently, very jerky on low throttle openings, much worse when going uphill (stalls).
Plugs/injectors cleaned, noticed that some sort of electically assisted plunger acts upon throttle mechanism (under right side of air cleaner) and is very erratic when blipping throttle from under the bonnet???
any ideas?
many thanks in advance.:)

The plunger controles the idle !
It sounds like the temperature sensor is gone its under the left side of air cleaner on the inlet manifold (with a blue plug on it)or it could be the lambda sensor id try the temp one first its cheaper and sounds more like ur prob (hope this is not 2 late only found this sight 2 day)

Hi Andy
Check the temperature gauge is working, if so then the temp sensor is ok. Is the car running at normal temperature, at about 90degrees C, if not you'll need to replace the thermostat. If the car is running cold then the engine management system will over choke thus resulting in the incorrect fuel mixture being injected into the cylinders making the car jerk and stall almost in any gear.
If the above are all ok then you'll need to check the heat sensor pipes (very small wire like pipes) on the are filter box, check they are not disconnected and there are to of them for hot and cold air. They are connected from the air filter box to the injector, sometimes they get damaged and leak air also resulting in stalling and jerking all over the shop. We recently had these replaced on my wifes car and the problem has gone.
In addition to the above you may need to check the crank case sensor, check all the connections are clean.
I think this should solve the problem, however, if the car still has the same problems after doing the above you may need to have the manifold sensor checked and the lambda sensor by a specialist.
I hope it all works out.

Hi ANdy

I have a fairly similar problem with M reg 1.4ie
Just wondering if you managed to clear it up and how?

Problem:
ANy gear, anytime, will suddenly cut power down to idle then rev high. Very rythmical. Idle-idle-vroom-idle-idle-vroom etc.

Switching Off/On fixes till next time. DOes it most journeys. SOmetimes 4 or 5 per journey.

Mobile mechanic with computer diagnostic came out. Problem did not show up during his visit. (natch)
Test results = 1. Idle Actuator had reported error sometime in past. When error cleared did not reoccur so inconclusive maybe?.
2. "Undefined Error Store"

Anyways, have noticed that operating temp is about 70 deg. Realise this is way low. Will try replacing thermo as first step as suggested. (Thanks Massiv01)

Any othere suggestions anyone?

Pete,

I had same problem with my 1.6 ie , 1994, bosch electronics inside.

It just start to put power to the engine with no reason, and if you lift your foot from the accelerator it will cut down power completely.
When on idle, engine starts to make rhytmic accellerations and slowdowns of rpms.

Problem was in idle regulator ( if thats the name ), it is a black device on side where accellerator wire is attached.

Cheers...

its sound as if lamda sensor is dirty. remove and clean.
check the air filter is clean- replace if ness.
then check spark plugs are not fouled up. they may appear matt black from running over-rich fuel because of above problem.
lastly check rotor arm and distributer cap and replace if heavily carbon fouled (grey/black burn marks).

Thanks for the replies bane & him [8D]
I'll look into those things

Any clues where I'd find the lamda sensor?
Don't have a manual - Haynes don't do my year/model[:(!]

Pete
