Technical Tipo clutch pedal mystery

I have a 1992 Tipo 1.4 Forza. The clutch is only 3 years old, works fine and bites at the correct level, but the clutch pedal currently sits twice as high as it should do (almost touching the bonnet release catch!), resulting in a lot of loose travel. I've had a good look at the pedal and spring setup from the inside of the car but can't find anything obviously wrong. I've now booked the car in to the dealer, but if anyone can help me out before I have to fork out I would really appreciate it.

It turned out to be the master cylinder. £170, but totally unnecessary if you don't mind putting up with odd pedal height.
